A native of Winchester, Massachusetts, Fran Murray helped lead the Babson ice hockey team to one of the most successful four-year stretches in program history. Between 1981 and 1985, the Beavers went a combined 91-29-4, advanced to the finals of the ECAC Tournament four times, won the ECAC Championship in 1983-84, and claimed the program's first-ever NCAA Tournament Championship that same season. At the heart of Babson's success was Murray, who was named ECAC Rookie of the Year in 1981-82 and a New England Hockey Writers ECAC Division II East All-Star in each of the next three seasons. Now, nearly two decades after his graduation in 1985, Murray still ranks third on Babson's all-time scoring list with 207 career points, and his 100 career goals remains the highest total in school history.
