Babson Athletics Hall of Fame
The most decorated harrier in Babson cross-country history, Joey Curtis ran for the Beavers from 1988 to 1991. During that time, he won 12 races, set three course records, and was named Team MVP on four occasions. As a junior captain in 1990, he was named Constitution Athletic Conference Runner of the Year after leading the Beavers to a second-place finish at the event - their highest conference finish ever. Then, in his senior season of 1991, Curtis proved nearly unbeatable, winning all but one of Babson's regular season races, including the Babson, Gordon, and Stonehill Invitationals. That fall, he repeated as CAC Runner of the Year, was named to both the ECAC and NCAA All-New England teams, and won Scholar Athlete of the Year honors. He recorded Babson's best finish ever at the ECAC Championships, where he finished ninth, and at the NCAA New England Championships, where he placed eighth. Under his leadership, the Beavers achieved their highest New England ranking in program history (5th) while finishing third at the conference championships. Today, Curtis still holds four of the six fastest times in Babson history, and his time of 25:06 at Stonehill on September 14, 1991 is still unsurpassed. In addition to his brilliance in cross-country, Curtis was also a founding member of the Babson Track and Field Club in 1990.Â
