Baseball Returns to Govoni Field for a Doubleheader with UMass Boston on Saturday

SERIES HISTORY

•    Babson is 28-13 all-time against UMass Boston in a series that dates back to 1982.
•    The Beavers have won five in a row against UMass Boston going back to 2019, which includes a pair of victories at Govoni Field back in 2024. 

LAST MEETING
•    Walter Sadowsky '25 went 2-for-3 with three RBI and junior Ryan Liss was 3-for-5 with a double, a stolen base and two runs batted in to help Babson defeat UMass Boston, 7-3, on April 23, 2025, in Boston. 
•    Sadowsky stroked a two-run go-ahead single as part of a four-run third inning, senior Zander Teator singled twice and knocked in a run, and four relievers combined for 4.2 shutout innings out of the bullpen for the Beavers. 
•    Bostyn Burris and Richard Williams both went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored for the Beacons, who scored twice in the bottom of the first before being limited to just five hits over the final eight innings. 

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
•    Babson (10-7) has won six consecutive games and eight of its last nine outings after defeating Trinity, 14-10, on Wednesday in Hartford, Conn. 
•    Sophomore Ben Valente went 3-for-5 with a double and three RBI, classmate Gabe Cushner was 2-for-5 with a double and three RBI and fellow sophomore Brooks Saft provided a bases-clearing double as part of an eight-run fourth inning for the Beavers, who got at least one hit from all nine starters and finished with a season-high eight extra-base hits. 
•    First-year Bobby Christensen is batting .365 with four extra-base hits, 11 RBI and nine runs scored, graduate student Ryan Grace is hitting .362 with four homers, six doubles, 20 RBI and 17 runs scored, and Valente enters the weekend with a .340 average to go along with two home runs, four doubles, 12 RBI and 13 runs scored. 
•    Graduate student Joe Carrea (1-0, 1.65 ERA) has 15 strikeouts and is holding opposing hitters to a .200 average over 16.1 innings, sophomore Chase Burrows is 3-0 with a 5.92 earned run average and 14 strikeouts against just three walks over 24.1 innings, and Teator (0-0, 2.25 ERA) has three saves in four relief appearances. 

SCOUTING THE BEACONS
•    UMass Boston (10-8) has won three of its last four contests and is coming off a 12-1 eight-inning victory over Nichols on Wednesday. 
•    Elliot Miles went 3-for-3 with a triple, two RBI and two runs scored, while Dylan Kennedy-Fujah and Brandon Gaer each drove in a pair of runs for the Beacons, who saw Robert Wunsch strike out three while giving up just one run on two hits over seven innings. 
•    Miles is batting .429 with six homers, six doubles, 28 RBI and 26 runs scored, Nick Farnacci is hitting .397 with six extra-base hits, 16 RBI and 28 runs scored, and Gaer has raised his average to .391 to go along with two homers, eight doubles, 21 RBI and 13 runs scored. 
•    Cameron Fisher (2-0, 4.50 ERA) has recorded 21 strikeouts while holding opposing batters to a .235 average over 22.0 innings, Jonny Pagano is 2-1 with a 4.95 ERA in 20 innings over five appearances, and Owen Ellsworth is 2-1 with a 2.65 earned run average and 16 strikeouts in 17.0 innings out of the bullpen this spring. 

HISTORY LESSON
•    The Beavers' seven doubles in Wednesday's victory at Trinity were their most since April 23, 2016, when they finished with seven in a victory over Emerson, and their eight extra-base hits are the most since recording eight in a 16-3 seven-inning win over Hope on February 28, 2025. 
•    Babson has now had a winning streak of at least six games in every full season (excluding 2020 and 2021) going back to 2017. 

STREAKING BEAVERS
•    Valente enters Saturday's doubleheader riding an eight-game hitting streak, Cushner and Grace both have at least one hit in seven consecutive outings, and Liss extended his hitting streak to five with a triple in Wednesday's victory at Trinity.
•    Grace has reached base safely in all 17 games this spring, Christensen and sophomore Dylan Drazka have been on base in 10 and nine straight games, respectively, and Teator has reached safely in his last eight outings. 
•    The Beavers have multiple extra-base hits in each of their last nine games going back to March 18 and have drawn at least three walks in eight straight contests. 

BABSON TRENDS
•    During its current six-game winning streak, Liss and Valente have both homered twice and are among a group of eight different players with at least five RBI. 
•    Over the last six games, Babson is batting .319 as a team with a .955 OPS and has been even better with runners in scoring position hitting .398 to go along with 18 two-out RBI.
•    Grace leads the team with seven multi-RBI games and both he and Christensen have recorded a team-high seven multi-hit games this spring. 
•    Drazka has yet to strikeout in 58 plate appearances this spring is one of just four Division III players with at least 40 at-bats and no strikeouts this spring. 
•    Carrea ranks 16th in Division III in WHIP (0.86), Burrows is 28th in walks per nine innings (1.11) and Teator is tied for 35th with his three saves. 

STRONG SHOWINGS ON THE BUMP
•    Carrea (2 ER, 5 SO) and Burrows (1 ER, 7 SO) both went eight innings to help the Beavers sweep Coast Guard last Sunday in New London, Conn., while junior Jason Finkelstein picked up his first win of the season after fanning two and giving up just two runs over seven innings on Tuesday at Wheaton. 
•    Sophomore Dillon James recorded his first career win out of the bullpen on Wednesday at Trinity, striking out four and allowing two runs over five innings. 

NUMBERS TO KNOW
•    The Beavers are 2-1 this season and 13-5 going back to the start of last year at Govoni Field.
•    Babson is 9-1 this spring and 29-4 over the last two season when scoring at least six runs. 
•    The Green and White is 8-0 this year and 28-0 going back to the beginning of last season when leading after six innings.
•    The Beavers are 9-3 this year when recording at least two extra-base hits.
