MARLBOROUGH, Mass.—A baker's dozen members of the Babson College baseball team were honored for their hard work in the classroom when they were named to the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Academic All-Conference team on Wednesday.
Juniors
Jason Finkelstein (Walpole, Mass.),
Jack Moses (Belle Mead, N.J.) and
Brennan Shapiro (Jamaica Plain, Mass.) were recognized for the second time in their careers, and first-time honorees include graduate students
Joe Carrea (Cranford, N.J.),
Ryan Grace (Concord, Mass.),
Cal Place (Needham, Mass.) and
Cooper Smith (Naples, Fla.), senior
Ryan Hvozdovic (Hillsborough, N.J.), juniors
Connor Frickey (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and
Cameron Grindle (Mansfield, Mass.), and sophomores
Trafton O'Brien (Wilmette, Ill.),
Quinn O'Keefe (Weston, Fla.), and
Brooks Saft (New Hope, Pa.).
Academic all-conference honorees must have met the following criteria: earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5/4.0 scale after the 2025 fall semester, achieved second year academic status, and been a member of the varsity team for the entire season.
A Business major,
Finkelstein had an outstanding season this spring, earning first team All-NEWMAC honors as well as second team All-Region accolades. He posted a 5-2 record in nine starts and one save in three relief appearances, recording a 3.23 earned run average. He gave up just 45 hits in 61.1 innings while striking out 51 batters. A Finance/Accounting major,
Shapiro made five relief appearances for the Beavers, allowing nine hits in 6.2 innings while fanning four. A Finance major,
Moses started 15 of his 21 games this spring, batting .262 (16-for-61) with 10 walks, one double, 12 RBI, six runs scored and five stolen bases.
A Business major,
Carrea made eight starts on the mound, second-most on the team, among his 13 appearances, going 3-3 with a 6.43 earned run average. He worked 49.0 innings and struck out 46 batters. Also Business majors,
Smith made two starts for the Green and White, pitching eight innings and striking out seven while
Place appeared in two games in relief, going 1.0 inning and allowing just two hits and fanning one.
A Business major,
Grace earned first-team All-Region and All-NEWMAC recognition in a terrific campaign for the Green and White after transferring from Colby. He made 36 starts, producing 49 hits and 27 walks and led the Beavers in batting average (.368), doubles (11), home runs (9), RBI (40), total bases (87), on-base percentage (.491), slugging percentage (.654) and OPS (1.145).
A Finance major,
Hvozdovic started in 21 of his 23 appearances and batted .275 with 19 hits, four doubles, one triple, one home run, 11 runs batted in and 16 runs scored. Also Finance majors,
Frickey started 15 of his 19 games played and batted .254 with 17 hits, one double, two triples, one home run, 13 RBI and 11 runs scored while
Grindle saw action in eight games with three starts, collecting six walks one hit, and one run scored.
A Finance major,
Saft started 11 of his 12 appearances, batting .250 with eight hits and nine walks along with two doubles, a home run, 10 RBI and eight runs scored. A Sports Management major,
O'Brien made just one appearance out of the bullpen, striking out one in one-third of an inning, while
O'Keefe, a Finance major, did not see any game action this spring.
The Beavers finished the season with a 27-17 overall record, captured their second NEWMAC championship in the past three seasons and recorded their first NCAA Tournament win since 2019.
