BABSON PARK, Mass.—Babson College baseball rising senior
Jason Finkelstein (Walpole, Mass.) and rising junior
Chase Burrows (Cream Ridge, N.J.) concluded successful summer league stints by pitching key innings in the postseason for their respective teams earlier this month.
Finkelstein rejoined the Harwich Mariners in late July after making one appearance in June and was the team's game one starter in the Cape Cod League Championship Series against the Bourne Braves on August 9. He recorded six strikeouts and allowed just one unearned run over 4.0 innings to open the best-of-three series, which Harwich dropped 7-3 before rallying to beat the Braves twice to claim its second CCBL title in the last three seasons.
Finkelstein made five appearances for the Mariners going 1-0 with a 3.00 ERA, a 0.93 WHIP and 14 strikeouts over 15.0 innings. He tossed six shutout innings of one-hit ball in Harwich's regular season finale and gave up just one unearned run while striking out 10 and walking just one batter over 10.0 innings in his final two starts.
Burrows continued in the footsteps of previous Babson pitchers Tim Noone '23 and
Zander Teator '26 by putting together a successful summer with the Vermont Lake Monsters of the Futures League. He went 4-2 with a 3.42 ERA, a 1.30 WHIP and 23 strikeouts while allowing just two home runs over 50.0 innings pitched.
After giving up just three unearned runs in 12.0 innings over his final two starts of the regular season, Burrows saved his best performance of the summer for game one of the Futures League Championship series on August 15. He tossed 8.0 shutout innings allowing just four hits while striking out one and walking one in an 89-pitch performance as the Lake Monsters edged New Britain, 1-0.
Vermont, which was making its first trip to the league's championship series since 2023, ultimately fell to the Bees in three games.
The strong performance over the summer for Finkelstein and Burrows come on the heels of helping Babson capture its second New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Tournament championship in three season to reach the NCAA Tournament back in May.
