Baseball Hosts Emerson on Saturday at Govoni Field

SERIES HISTORY

•    Babson is 30-1 all-time against Emerson in a series that dates back to 2011. 
•    The Beavers have swept back-to-back regular season doubleheaders against the Lions after dropping the middle game of a three-game series back in 2023.
•    The Green and White has scored 10 or more runs in 14 of its last 16 outings versus Emerson. 

LAST MEETING
•    Justin Guest '25 went 3-for-3 with two doubles, two RBI and two runs scored, and junior Jack Moses doubled twice and drove in a run as the Beavers defeated Emerson 12-1 in seven innings to complete a doubleheader sweep on March 29, 2025, in Babson Park. 
•    Brant Savage '24 M'25 singled twice and scored three times, and junior Dante D'Avanzo contributed three sacrifice flies for Babson, which got eight strikeouts and six shutout innings from fellow junior Jason Finkelstein
•    Chris Ferara doubled, Briggs Loveland singled and scored and Braeden O'Connell had an RBI for the Lions, who dropped game one of the twin bill to the Beavers 11-0 in seven innings. 

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
•    Babson (15-11, 5-3 NEWMAC) has won four consecutive games after building an 11-run lead on the way to defeating UMass Dartmouth, 15-11, on Thursday. 
•    First-year Bobby Christensen went 3-for-5 with an RBI double, graduate student Ryan Grace hit a two-run homer and Moses was 2-for-5 with two RBI for the Beavers, who finished with 12 hits and nine walks in addition to taking advantage of six errors by the Corsairs. 
•    Christensen is batting .378 with a home run, seven doubles, 19 RBI and 17 runs scored, Grace his hitting .361 with seven doubles and leads the team in OPS (1.107), home runs (6), RBI (28) and runs scored (28), and sophomore Ben Valente boasts a .351 average to go along with five doubles, two runs, a team-high eight stolen bases, 19 RBI and 26 runs scored. 
•    Sophomore Chase Burrows (4-1, 5.09 ERA) has one complete game and has recorded 22 strikeouts against just five walks over 35.1 innings, Finkelstein (2-2, 5.92 ERA) picked up his first save of the year in Wednesday's victory over Tufts and is holding opposing hitters to a .231 average in 24.1 innings, and Dillon James (2-0, 5.60 ERA) has 13 strikeouts and is holding opposing batters to a .206 average in 17.2 innings out of the bullpen this spring. 
 
SCOUTING THE LIONS
•    Emerson (5-18, 1-9 NEWMAC) snapped a three-game skid with a 19-5 five-inning win over Framingham State on Thursday. 
•    Liam Wagner went 3-for-3 with a double, five RBI and two turns scored, Charlie Coors hit a three-run homer and John Churchward went 2-for-4 with a double and four RBI for the Lions, who scored multiple runs in each of the first five innings and finished the day with eight doubles. 
•    O'Connell is batting .372 with two homers, 11 doubles, 14 RBI and 16 runs scored, Justin Fields is hitting .300 with a home run, eight doubles, 15 RBI and 17 runs scored, and Coors (.217) leads the team with three home runs and 20 runs batted in. 
•    Lukas Phillip is 1-5 with an 8.37 ERA to go along with 17 strikeouts in 23.2 innings over six starts, Tyler Metcalf is 1-5 with a 10.48 earned run average and 17 strikeouts in 22.1 innings pitched, and Xaver Hall has gone 1-0 with two saves and a 1.08 ERA in five relief appearances. 

TIGHTLY PACKED NEWMAC
•    Thanks to Tuesday's victory over Salve Regina, Babson sits at 5-3 and is tied with Springfield in fourth place in the conference standings entering Saturday's action. 
•    MIT (8-2) sits atop the standings ahead of Salve Regina (6-2) and Wheaton (7-3), and the top five teams are currently separated by just one game int the loss column.

TRENDS TO WATCH
•    Babson, which ranks second in Division III in double plays per game (1.15) and fifth nationally with 30 double plays has turned at least one in six consecutive games and has eight twin killings during its four-game winning streak.
•    Valente has reached base in 17 consecutive starts and is batting .381 with five doubles, two homers, 19 RBI and 25 runs scored to go along with a .512 on-base percentage during this stretch. 
•    Grace leads the Beavers with nine multi-RBI games and he and Christensen are tied for the team lead with 10 multi-hit games apiece.
•    Junior Ryan Liss, who had a pinch-hit grand slam in Tuesday's win over No. 3/4 Salve Regina, has seven RBI over the last six games. 
•    Senior Ryan Hvozdovic owns a three-game hitting streak and has scored at least one run in three straight starts in addition to driving in six during this stretch, which dates back to April 9.
•    Over his last two relief appearances, graduate student Michael Camardi has allowed just one earned run while striking out six over 5.0 innings. 

STREAKING BEAVERS
•    Grace enters Saturday's doubleheader with at least one hit in six consecutive games, while Christensen has reached base safely in eight straight games in addition to recording at least one hit and an RBI in five straight contests. 
•    Junior Ian Laforest, who returned to the lineup after missing a month due to injury, has at least one hit in all five of his starts this spring. 
•    Liss has reached base in seven consecutive starts and owns a four-game hitting streak, while senior Zander Teator and D'Avanzo have reached base in six and five straight games, respectively. 

NUMBERS TO KNOW
•    The Beavers are 9-0 this spring when they get at least six innings from their starting pitcher. 
•    Babson is 12-3 on the year when scoring at least six runs and 9-1 when it finishes with more hits than its opponents.
•    The Green and White is 12-1 this season when leading after six innings. 
•    The Beavers are 8-1 on the year when allowing five runs or fewer.
