Baseball Faces No. 4/4 Salve Regina on Tuesday at Govoni Field

SERIES HISTORY

•    Babson is 13-9 all-time against Salve Regina in a series that dates back to 1986.
•    The Beavers have dropped all five regular season meetings to the Seahawks since they joined the NEWMAC prior to the 2024 campaign but won the only conference tournament matchup between the squads back in 2024. 
•    The Green and White suffered 5-4 and 5-3 losses to Salve Regina last season at Govoni Field. 

LAST MEETING
•    Danny Rogers and Shane Williams both drove in a pair of runs and Luis Ortiz Ramirez struck out six while allowing just one hit over 7.0 innings as Salve Regina defeated Babson, 7-1, last Tuesday in Newport, R.I. 
•    Rogers produced a two-run single in the first, Williams hit a two-run homer in the third and Jake Harring, Elliot Hamilton and Grady Schopps each recorded a pair of hits for the Seahawks, who had five different players drive in a run while building a 7-0 lead in the fifth.
•    Sophomore Brooks Saft went 2-for-3, classmate Dylan Drazka provided an RBI double in the eighth and first-year Bobby Christensen singled, walked and scored for the Beavers. 

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
•    Babson (12-11, 4-3 NEWMAC) snapped a three-game skid with a 14-1 seven-inning win over MIT in game of Saturday's doubleheader at Govoni Field. 
•    Senior Ryan Hvozdovic drove in four runs, Christensen doubled, walked three times and had three RBI, and graduate student Ryan Grace, senior Zander Teator and junior Dante D'Avanzo added two hits apiece for the Beavers, who got six strikeouts over 7.0 innings from sophomore Chase Burrows
•    Grace is batting .365 with five home runs, six doubles, 25 RBI and 25 runs scored, sophomore Ben Valente is hitting .364 with five doubles, two home runs,  a team-high eight stolen bases, 17 RBI and 21 runs scored, and Christensen boasts a .362 average to go along with six extra-base hits, 16 RBI and 14 runs scored. 
•    Graduate student Joe Carrea (1-1, 3.10 ERA) has 17 strikeouts in 20.1 innings, classmate Michael Camardi is 1-0 with a 4.82 earned run average and 10 strikeouts in 9.1 innings out of the bullpen, and senior Connor Doan is 1-0 with a 6.23 ERA in 13.1 innings over five appearances on the year. 

SCOUTING THE SEAHAWKS
•    No. 4 D3baseball.com/No. 4 ABCA Salve Regina (23-2, 6-1 NEWMAC) extended its winning streak to nine by sweeping UMass Dartmouth with a 24-5 seven-inning victory in the nightcap of Saturday's twin bill. 
•    Williams, Hamilton, Schopps, Shea Donovan and James Anastasopoulos all recorded multiple hits and drove in three runs apiece for the Seahawks, who erupted for 12 first-inning runs and recorded a new season high with 19 hits in the win. 
•    Danny Rogers is batting .477 with seven doubles, 23 RBI and 29 runs scored, Evan O'Rourke is hitting .405 with three home runs, six doubles, 20 RBI and 33 runs scored, and Williams boasts a .360 average to go along with seven homers, six doubles, 14 stolen bases, 39 RBI and 40 runs scored on the year. 
•    Ortiz Ramirez (5-0, 3.75 ERA) has a 0.92 WHIP to go along with 21 strikeouts against just one walk in 24.0 innings, James Keating is 2-0 with a 0.93 earned run average and 11 strikeouts in 9.2 innings pitched, and Kyle Carozza is 1-0 with two saves, a 1.29 ERA and 22 strikeouts in 14.0 innings out of the bullpen this spring. 

TIGHTLY PACKED NEWMAC
•    While Salve Regina sits atop the conference standings at 6-1, the four teams chasing them all have either two or three losses. 
•    MIT (7-2) is currently second ahead of third-place Springfield (5-2), Wheaton (6-3) and Babson (4-3) are just a game behind them in the loss column, and Clark (3-4) is a game ahead of Coast Guard (3-6) for the final playoff spot as league play nears its midway point. 

BABSON TRENDS
•    Valente has reached base in 14 consecutive starts and is batting .404 with five doubles, two homers, 17 RBI and 20 runs scored to go along with a .516 on-base percentage during this stretch. 
•    Christensen (.531 OBP), Grace (.514 OBP) and Valente are tied for the team lead with eight RBI in the Beavers' first seven conference outings. 
•    Burrows is 2-0 with a 1.20 ERA, a 0.67 WHIP and 13 strikeouts while issuing just one walk over 15.0 innings in two starts versus NEWMAC foes. 
•    The Green and White is hitting .291 as a team and .342 as team with runners in scoring position in conference play, and ranks fourth with a 4.80 team ERA. 

WALK IT OUT
•    The Beavers were issued 14 free passes in their game two win over MIT on Saturday, which is their most in a game since walking 19 times in a 23-1 rout against Emerson during the pandemic-shortened 2021 campaign.
•    Sophomore Gabe Cushner's four walks in the victory were a career high and the most since Ike Kiely '24 walked four times in a win over MIT on April 23, 2022. 
•    Babson has walked at least once in 72 consecutive games dating back to game two of a doubleheader at Coast Guard on April 27, 2024. 

ALL GOOD THINGS MUST COME TO AN END
•    Prior to MIT erasing an 11-8 deficit in the top of the ninth of game one on Saturday, the Beavers were 10-0 this season and had won 74 consecutive games when leading after eight innings. 
•    Babson's last loss prior to Saturday when carrying a lead into the ninth inning came back on March 5, 2022, when it suffered a 6-5 12-inning defeat to Brandeis.

NUMBERS TO KNOW
•    The Beavers are 8-1 this spring when recording more hits than its opponents. 
•    Babson is 7-1 this season when allowing five or fewer runs. 
•    The Green and White is 3-2 in games decided by either one or two runs.
•    The Beavers are 12-1 when leading after seven innings. 

UP NEXT
•    Babson concludes its five-game homestand on Wednesday when it hosts 22nd-ranked Tufts at 3:30 p.m.
