Men’s Lacrosse Sweeps NEWMAC Weekly Honors

MARLBOROUGH, Mass.— The sixth-ranked Babson College men's lacrosse team swept the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) weekly honors on Monday as graduate student Joey Allen (Philadelphia, Pa.) and sophomore Andrew Almquist (Wakefield, Mass.) were named Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, and graduate student Beau Burns (Washington, D.C.) was tabbed the Face-Off Specialist of the Week for the fourth time this spring.

Allen earned his second NEWMAC weekly honor after putting up five goals and one assist for six points as Babson split a pair of games last week. He scored three times in the Beavers' 12-8 loss to No. 2/2 Bowdoin on Tuesday night and followed it up with two goals and one assist in Saturday's 16-6 victory at Salve Regina.

A grad transfer from Washington & Lee, Allen has started eight of his nine games with the Beavers and leads the team with 21 goals, including eight man-up scores, which ranks third in Division III. He also ranks second on the team with 10 assists and third with 31 points, and he is tied for eighth in the NEWMAC in goals and ranks 10th in points. The Beaver attacker has scored at least one goal in eight of his nine games with six multi-goal outings.

Almquist was terrific in two starts totaling 35 saves and posting a 9.00 goals against average to go along with a .660 save percentage. He made 15 saves in a 12-8 loss to No. 2/2 Bowdoin on Tuesday night and followed it up by stopping 20 shots, which was just one below his career high, to help the Beavers defeat Salve Regina, 16-6, on Saturday.

A three-time NEWMAC goalie of the week this spring, Almquist has started all 10 games in goal for the Beavers this season and boasts a 9.02 goals against average and a .603 save percentage with 135 saves. He ranks second in the NEWMAC in both GAA and save percentage as well as leading the conference in total saves. He has posted an 8.42 GAA and a .637 save percentage with 72 saves over his last five starts.

Burns won 17-of-31 face-offs (54.8 percent) and scooped up 13 ground balls as Babson split a pair of games. He bounced back from a 6-of-17 night in the Beavers' 12-8 loss to No. 2/2 Bowdoin on Tuesday by winning 11-of-14 face-offs and collecting nine ground balls in Saturday's 16-6 victory at Salve Regina.

A grad transfer from Bowdoin, Burns has won 123 of his 170 face-offs this spring for a 72.4 winning percentage, which leads the NEWMAC and ranks 12th in Division III. He has also scooped up a team-high 90 ground balls, and his 9.00 ground balls per game lead the conference and rank 20th in Division III.

The Beavers (9-1, 3-0 NEWMAC) play a non-conference game at UMass Boston on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
