Burns Earns Repeat Selection to the USILA Division III Team of the Week

Burns and Rooney Also Named to the NEILA Team of the Week

BABSON PARK, Mass.—Babson College graduate student Beau Burns (Washington, D.C.) earned a repeat selection to the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Division III Team of the Week late Tuesday. 

In addition to the national honor, Burns and junior Seamus Rooney (Bay Shore, N.Y.) both claimed spots on the New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) Team of the Week. Burns was named to the NEILA Division III squad for the third time this spring, while Rooney was recognized for the first time. 

Burns, who was tabbed as the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Face-off Specialist of the Week for the third week in a row on Monday, put together one of the best games in program history winning 20-of-21 face-offs and picking up 15 ground balls as No. 6/6 Babson remained unbeaten with a 21-6 win over Springfield on Saturday. He was a perfect 12-of-12 in the first half and won his first 14 face-offs of the game while finishing with double-digit ground balls for the fourth time in the last five games.
 
A grad transfer from Bowdoin, Burns has won 106 of his 139 face-offs this spring for a 76.3 percentage, which and ranks sixth in Division III. He has also scooped up a team-high 77 ground balls, and his 9.63 ground balls per game, which ranks 14th in Division III.

Rooney scored a season-high four goals to tie for game-high honors as the Beavers rolled past the Pride on Saturday. He recorded a pair of first-quarter tallies as the Green and White jumped out to a 6-2 lead and also matched his season high with three ground balls in the victory.

Rooney is fourth on the team in scoring with 13 goals and four assists for 17 points over his first seven contests. 

No. 6 USILA/No. 6 USA Lacrosse Babson (8-1, 2-0 NEWMAC), which suffered its first loss of the season falling to No. 2/2 Bowdoin 12-8 on Tuesday night, is back in action on Saturday when it travels to Salve Regina at 7 p.m.
