MARLBOROUGH, Mass.—A dozen members of the Babson College baseball team were honored for their hard work in the classroom when they were named to the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Academic All-Conference team on Thursday.
Graduate student
Brant Savage (Charlton, Mass.) was named to the All-Academic team for the fourth year in a row, classmate
Tristen Spalter (Sergeantsville, N.J.) and senior
Cole Velis (Lexington, Mass.) were recognized for the third time, and juniors
Chris Basile (Miami Beach, Fla.),
Nick Coletti (Carlisle, Mass.), and
Johnny McArthur (St. Louis, Mo.) were honored for the first time in their respective careers.
First-time honorees include graduate students
Tanner Santos (Bethany, Conn.) and
Kyle Wolff (Stratham, N.H.), junior
Samuel Harris (Windham, N.H.), and sophomores
Jason Finkelstein (Walpole, Mass.),
Brennan Shapiro (Jamaica Plain, Mass.) and
Jack Moses (Belle Mead, N.J.).
Academic all-conference honorees must have met the following criteria: earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5/4.0 scale after the 2024 fall semester, achieved second year academic status, and been a member of the varsity team for the entire season.
A three-time All-NEWMAC selection and a Finance major,
Savage started all 36 games this spring, batting .275 with 32 hits, six doubles, five home runs, 36 RBI, 32 runs scored, and 62 total bases. He finished 12th in the NEWMAC in RBIs and tied for 14th in home runs. He had 15 multi-RBI games this spring, including a home run and four-RBI game in a victory over MIT and a 3-for-4 performance with a home run and a career-high six RBI in a win over Wheaton. A two-time All-Region player, he is tied for second on the Babson career home run list with 24 round-trippers, tied for third in career RBIs (124), tied for sixth in doubles (39), and ranks 11th all-time in both hits (171) and runs scored (118).
Spalter, an Accouting major, started nine games on the mound this season and finished with a 3-4 record and 32 strikeouts in 46.2 innings. He went at least 5.2 innings in five of his starts and picked up victories over Hope, MIT and WPI. In 38 career appearances, Spalter went 14-10 with a 3.80 ERA, allowing 229 hits in 208.1 innings while fanning 138.
Velis, a Business Analytics major, served as a student assist coach this season. He made seven appearances out of the bullpen in 2024, and has three wins and 12 strikeouts in 15.1 career innings over two seasons.
A pair of Business Analytics majors,
Santos and
Wolff played for the Beavers this spring as graduate students. Santos started 30 games at second base and batted .278 with a .417 on-base percentage, registering seven doubles, a triple, 18 RBI, 12 stolen bases and 29 runs scored. Wolff made five appearances on the mound, working three innings and striking out three.
Basile,
Coletti,
Harris and
McArthur are all junior Finance majors at Babson. Basile started 11 of his 13 games for the Beavers this season, batting .244 (10-for-41) with two doubles, a triple, a home run, 12 RBI and eight runs scored.
Finkelstein, a Business major, was one of the top pitchers for the Beavers this spring. He made a team-high nine starts along with one relief appearance, posting a 3-2 record with a 3.30 earned run average. He allowed 46 hits in 46.1 innings while striking out 31 batters.
Shapiro, a Finance/Accounting major, made two relief appearances, allowing one hit and three walks in 1.2 innings of work.
Moses, a Finance major, started 14 of his 18 games this spring, batting .275 (14-for-51) with four doubles, a home run, 13 RBI and 10 runs scored.
The Beavers finished 23-13 overall this spring and went 8-8 in NEWMAC games.
