Alessandra Cristiani (San Salvador, El Salvador) captured victories in both singles and doubles as No. 14 Babson College registered a 7-0 victory over Wheaton College in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's tennis match Tuesday afternoon at the Clark Tennis Courts.
With the victory, Babson won for the third time in four days to improve to 12-4 overall and 6-2 in the NEWMAC while Wheaton lost its third match in its last four outings and dipped to 6-9 overall and 3-4 in conference matches. Babson clinched the third seed in next week's NEWMAC Tournament and will host a quarterfinal match on Tuesday, April 29.
Juniors
Grace Starcher (Morristown, N.J.) and
Shyla Khattar (New Delhi, India) and sophomore
Riya Matharoo (Dubai, United Arab Emirates) also posted singles wins for the Beavers, and senior
Olivia Soffer (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.), sophomore
Dana Kamal (Cairo, Egypt) and first-year
Mia Sorrentino (Miami, Fla.) were on winning doubles teams.
The Beavers breezed through doubles to capture the team point as
Olivia Soffer and
Matia Cristiani at number one and
Chaniel Soffer and
Alessandra Cristiani at number two won by 6-0 scores, and Kamal and Sorrentino registered a 6-1 victory at number three.
The Green and White completed the sweep by winning all six singles matches in straight sets. Khattar was victorious in her match at number six, 6-0, 6-1, and
Matia Cristiani at number one and
Alessandra Cristiani at number three won by identical scores of 6-1, 6-0. Starcher took a 6-0, 6-2 decision at number four,
Chaniel Soffer was a 6-2, 6-1 winner at number two, and Matharoo finished things off with a win at number five, 6-0, 6-3.
The Beavers wind up the regular season with a non-conference match Saturday at No. 10 Amherst beginning at 11 a.m. Wheaton plays a non-conference match at Endicott on Thursday at 3 p.m.
MATCH NOTES
• Babson has won the last 10 matches against Wheaton and is 21-11 all-time versus the Lyons in a series that dates back to 1994.
• The Green and White are 29-5 in regular season matches against NEWMAC foes going back to 2021.

Matia Cristiani have both reached the 40-win plateau in combined singles and doubles this season, a mark reached only seven times in program history (three each by Olivia and Matia and once by Yagmur Akgul in 2014-15).
