Dana Kamal (Cairo, Egypt) and first-year
Elizaeth Shu (Sugar Land, Texas) all won matches in both singles and doubles as No. 11 Babson College rolled past Wheaton College, 7-0, in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's tennis match Sunday afternoon at the Clark Tennis Courts.
With the victory, Babson posted its second straight victory and improved to 6-3 overall and 3-0 in the NEWMAC. Wheaton dropped its second in a row and fell to 6-6 overall and 1-2 in conference matches.
First-years
Sandra Sikharulidze (Kyiv, Ukraine) and
Tina Lui (Plantation, Fla.) and sophomore
Mia Sorrentino (Miami, Fla.) posted singles wins for the Beavers, and sophomores
Alessandra Cristiani (San Salvador, El Salvador),
Sarai Dorismond (Carlsbad, Calif.) and first-year
Jolie Wang (Los Altos Hills, Calif.) were on winning doubles teams in the victory.
The Beavers earned the doubles point with a sweep of the three encounters all by 6-2 set scores. Dorismond and Wang captured the second flight, Cristiani teamed with Shu for a win in the first flight, and Starcher and Kamal were winners at number three.
The Green and White took all six singles matches in straight sets, starting with Shu winning 6-0, 6-0 at number two. Sikharulidze was a 6-2, 6-2 winner at number one and Sorrentino followed with a 6-1, 6-2 verdict at number four to clinch the team victory.
Starcher ran away with a 6-2, 6-1 victory at number five, Liu posted a 6-2, 6-0 win at number three, and Kamal closed out the day with a 6-1, 6-1 triumph at number six.
Babson returns to action on Wednesday as the Beavers host local rival and 22nd-ranked Brandeis at 4 p.m. at the Babson Tennis Courts.
MATCH NOTES
• Babson has defeated the Lyons 12 straight times and is 22-11 all-time versus Wheaton in a series that dates back to 1994.
• The Beavers are unbeaten in 26 straight matches at number one doubles dating back to March 19 of last season.
• Sikharulidze won her seventh straight singles match and is second on the team in singles wins with a 13-4 record, while Liu (9-6) and Wang (9-5) are tied for third in singles wins.
