Box Score BABSON PARK, Mass. —Five players were victorious in both singles and doubles as No. 14 Babson College cruised to a 7-0 victory over Salve Regina University in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's tennis match Monday afternoon at the Babson Tennis Courts.
With the victory, Babson won for the second time in three days to improve to 11-4 overall and 5-2 in the NEWMAC while Salve Regina dropped its second in a row and fell to 5-10 overall and 2-5 in the conference.
The Beavers breezed to the doubles point by winning all three sets while giving up just four games. Juniors
Kamila Stasiowska (Burlington, Conn.) and
Shyla Khattar (New Delhi, India) posted a 6-0 victory in the third flight; junior
Grace Starcher (Morristown, N.J.) and sophomore
Riya Matharoo (Dubai, United Arab Emirates) were winners at number two; and sophomore
Dana Kamal (Cairo, Egypt) and first-year
Mia Sorrentino (Miami, Fla.) finished off a 6-3 verdict at number one.
Four of the singles matches were completed with 6-0, 6-0 victories by the Beavers, first-year
Alessandra Cristiani (San Salvador, El Salvador) at number one, Stasiowska at number two, Starcher at number four, and Khattar at number six. Matharoo produced a 6-0, 6-1 victory at number five, and Sorrentino won the final match over sophomore Madigan Murphy (York, Maine) at number three, 6-2, 6-2.
The Beavers will be right back on the courts on Tuesday with a NEWMAC match at Wheaton at 4 p.m. Salve wraps up the regular season at No. 11 MIT on Saturday at 12 p.m.
MATCH NOTES
• Babson is 12-0 all-time against Salve Regina in a series that dates back to 2000.
• The Green and White are 28-5 in regular season matches against NEWMAC foes going back to 2021.
• Cristiani improved her record to 15-7 and Starcher to 12-4 this season, which rank third and fifth on the team in singles wins.
