WELLESLEY, Mass. — The Babson College women's tennis team was dominant in singles play on Saturday afternoon, finishing a perfect day with wins in all 20 matches on day two of the Wellesley Invitational.
Senior
Olivia Soffer (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.), who was 20-3 last year, won her two matches, defeating Kotistha Modak of Wellesley, 6-1, 7-6 (7-2), and Rebecca Suarez of Brandeis in a pair of tiebreakers, 7-6 (3), 7-6 (3). Junior
Matia Cristiani (San Salvador, El Salvador), who went 29-2 last year, posted wins over Sofia Corte-Real of Wellesley, 6-2, 6-1, and Sara Beckman (Cal-Santa Cruz), 6-0, 6-3.
Juniors
Mariana Campos (Houston, Texas) and
Grace Starcher (Morristown, N.J.) each won twice, Campos taking matches from Rianna Mariotti of Wellesley, 6-4, 6-4, and Julia Clark of Trinity, 6-0, 6-0, and Starcher capturing verdicts over Hellena Trojer of Trinity, 6-1, 6-2, and Sanjana Kumar of Brandeis, 7-5, 6-3. Fellow junior
Elena Keitt (Austin, Texas) was perfect, winning 6-0, 6-2 over Ximena Malpica of Trinity and 7-5, 6-2 over Kriti Sarav of Brandeis, and classmate
Shyla Khattar (New Delhi, India) registered wins over Hellena Trojer of Trinity, 6-0, 6-1, and Ximena Mariscal Rodriguez of Trinity, 6-1, 6-0.
Sophomore
Chaniel Soffer (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and
Riya Matharoo (Dubai, United Arab Emirates) both went 2-0 on the day as Soffer downed Marie Reyes of Brandeis, 3-6, 6-3, 10-3, and Cecelia Denis oof Brandeis, 6-0, 6-1, and Matharoo earned triumphs over Nancy Zhang of Brandeis, 6-1, 6-3, and Chahana Budhbhatti of Brandeis, 6-4, 4-6, (10-8).
Babson's two rookies finished off the day with a pair of wins each as first-year
Sarai Dorismond (Carlsbad, Calif.) defeated Suzy Xu of Wellesley, 6-3, 6-1, and Bhakti Parwani of Brandeis, 6-2, 6-1, while classmate
Alessandra Cristiani (San Salvador, El Salvador) posted victories over Lika Bolkvadze of Brandeis, 7-6 (7-4), 6-7 (2-7), 10-5, and Sanjuna Kumar of Brandeis, 6-0, 6-4.
The tournament will wrap up on Sunday with matches in both singles and doubles, beginning at 9 a.m.
