Elena Keitt (Austin, Texas) picked up victories in both singles and doubles to help No. 13 Babson College cruise to an 8-1 win over Mount Holyoke College in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's tennis action on Wednesday evening.
With its second consecutive victory, Babson improves to 6-1 overall and 3-0 in conference play. Mount Holyoke, which had its four-match winning streak snapped, slips to 7-3 overall and 1-1 in the NEWMAC.
The Beavers swept the Lyons in doubles, beginning with an 8-3 triumph by Keitt and sophomore
Kamila Stasiowska (Burlington, Conn.) at number three. Senior
Juliette Moschella (Little Silver, N.J.) and junior
Laetitia Rizk (Beirut, Lebanon) were 8-2 winners at number two, while the duo of senior
Adèle Fernández (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) and first-year
Chaniel Soffer (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) posted an 8-4 victory at number one.
Keitt took the opening set 6-0 at number three singles before first-year Rachel Allen (Mary Esther, Fla.) retired for Babson's first singles point, which was followed by sophomore
Grace Starcher (Morristown, N.J.) winning 6-0, 6-1 at number five. Sophomore
Shyla Khattar (New Delhi, India) picked up the first dual-match singles victory of her career by defeating sophomore Cal Smith (Bridgewater, Mass.) at number four, while senior
Jane Wang (San Diego, Calif.) recorded a 6-2, 6-3 victory at number six.
The Beavers' final point came at number one where junior
Olivia Soffer (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) downed junior Annika Chai (London, England), 6-3, 6-2. Mount Holyoke claimed its lone point at number two singles where sophomore Kirat Kaur (Chandigarh, India) earned a hard-fought 7-6 (8-6), 6-4) win over
Chaniel Soffer.
Both teams return to action on Saturday as Babson travels to Salve Regina at 10:30 a.m., while Mount Holyoke heads to Emerson for an 11 a.m. match.
