No. 6 Women's Tennis Hosts Weekend Matches Against Springfield and No. 36 Wellesley

WHAT TO KNOW

•    The sixth-ranked Babson women's tennis team will continue its season-ending seven-match homestand when it hosts Springfield on Saturday afternoon and No. 35 Wellesley on Sunday at the Babson Tennis Courts. 

SERIES HISTORY
vs. Springfield

•    Babson is 29-4 all-time against the Pride in a series that dates back to 1995.
•    The Beavers have won 28 consecutive matches versus Springfield since 2000 and has not dropped more than one point in any of the last 15 matches between the squads. 
•    Olivia Soffer '25, senior Matia Cristiani, junior Chaniel Soffer and sophomore Alessandra Cristiani all recorded wins in both singles and doubles to help Babson defeat the Pride, 7-0, on April 19, 2025, in Springfield, Mass. 

vs. Wellesley
•    Babson is 15-34 all-time versus the Blue in a series that dates back to 1989.
•    The Beavers have won five of the last six matches in the series and are 12-4 against Wellesley since 2015.
•    After suffering a 4-3 loss in last year's regular season matchup, the Green and White claimed the doubles point and got singles victories from Matia Cristiani at number two, Alessandra Cristiani at number three and Kamila Stasiowska at number five to beat Wellesley 4-0 in the NEWMAC semifinals on May 3, 2025. 

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
•    No. 6 Babson (11-3, 5-0 NEWMAC) has won its last seven matches after cruising past Skidmore 7-0 last Saturday.
•    Junior Dana Kamal, Alessandra Cristiani and first-year Sandra Sikharulidze recorded victories in both singles and doubles for the Beavers, who claimed all the singles matches in straight sets. 
•    Matia Cristiani is a perfect 26-0 in all matches and 10-0 at number one singles this spring, Sikharulidze is 16-4 overall and 8-0 at number two singles, first-year Jolie Wang (12-5) is 6-3 in dual-match play and classmate Tina Liu (12-7) is 4-5 with victories at two, three and four singles. 
•    Matia Cristiani and Sikharulidze have gone 26-2 this season and are 11-0 at number one doubles, Wang and sophomore Sarai Dorismond are 8-2 overall and 4-0 at number two, and Kamal and senior Grace Starcher are 3-0 at number three doubles. 

SCOUTING THE PRIDE
•    Springfield (9-5, 4-2 NEWMAC) has won five of its last six matches and is coming off a 7-0 sweep of crosstown rival Western New England on Thursday. 
•    Erica Jud, Alyssa Elliott, Kelly McGoldrick and Catie Seklecki all earned points in both singles and doubles for the Pride, which breezed through doubles and won all six singles matches in straight sets. 
•    Peyton Gaudreau is 8-1 on the year at number one singles, Jud is 8-2 with four wins at apiece at numbers two and three, and Kapom Vettayawaikoon is 6-4 with five victories coming at number two. 
•    Vettayawaikoon and Natalia Peyon are 3-7 at number one doubles, Elliott and Jud are 8-6 in all matches and 2-2 at number two, and McGoldrick and Ava Shea are 0-2 at number three. 

SCOUTING THE BLUE
•    Wellesley (9-4, 3-1 NEWMAC) has won three straight and five of its last six matches after downing Skidmore 6-1 last Sunday. 
•    Luna Bian and Kriti Sarav secured the doubles point with a 6-4 win at number two and Suzanne Xu and Sofia Corte-Real both recorded three-set triumphs at number one and two singles for the Blue, which also got straight-set wins from Bian at number four and Sophie Buttorf at number five. 
•    Xu is 7-9 overall and 7-5 at number one singles, Corte-Real is 4-5 at number two, Bian (11-5) owns a 6-2 record at number four and Buttorf is 13-3 in all matches and enters the weekend riding a six-match winning streak. 
•    Xu and Pak are 7-5 at number one doubles, Bian and Sarav are 10-2 with three straight wins at number two and Corte-Real and Patel have gone 3-0 at number three doubles. 

NEWMAC RESET
•    Entering the penultimate weekend of regular season play, No. 6 Babson and No. 8 MIT remained tied atop the conference standings at 5-0 with Wellesley just one game back in the loss column at 3-1. 
•    Both the Beavers and Engineers have already secured a spot in the upcoming NEWMAC Tournament and the winner of next Saturday's match will likely earn the top seed and home court advantage. 

BABSON TRENDS
•    Sikharulidze has started the spring with 10 consecutive victories in singles.
•    First-year Manuela Moscoso has won five straight matches in singles and three in a row in doubles. 
•    Matia Cristiani owns a perfect 17-0 career mark in both singles and doubles against NEWMAC foes. 
•    The Beavers have won seven consecutive matches as a team at both number five singles and number three doubles. 

NUMBERS TO KNOW
•    Babson is a perfect 14-0 at number one doubles and both number one and two singles this season.
•    The Beavers are 11-0 on the year and have won 19 consecutive matches when leading after doubles. 
•    The Green and White is 23-1 at the Babson Tennis Courts going back to May 3, 2023. 
•    Babson is 6-3 versus nationally-ranked foes this season. 

UP NEXT
•    The Beavers will host 13th-ranked Washington & Lee in its final non-conference match of the regular season next Tuesday at 3:15 p.m.
