BRUNSWICK, Maine—The top-seeded doubles pairing of sophomores
Sandra Sikharulidze (Kyiv, Ukraine) and
Elizabeth Shu (Sugar Land, Texas) are among three Babson College competitors that stayed unbeaten at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) New England Championships on Saturday at Bowdoin College.
In addition to the Beavers' top doubles duo, junior
Sarai Dorismond (Carlsbad, Calif.) stayed perfect in the B draw singles bracket.
Sikharulidze and Shu cruised to an 8-1 win over Ayla Hauser and Heidi Cambron of Smith in their third round match and then downed seventh-seeded Kayla Mitchell and Agnes Guggenheim of Wesleyan in the quarterfinals, 8-5. Dorismond and sophomore
Jolie Wong (Los Altos Hills, Calif.) also won their third round match 8-7 (7-2) over fourth-seeded Tina She and Lily Dounchis of Amherst before falling 8-3 to fifth-ranked Katie Driscoll and Anastasia Samets of MIT in the quarterfinals.
After playing just once in singles on Friday, Dorismond breezed through three matches to reach the semifinals on Saturday. She was an 8-4 winner over Milana Sofizade of Brandeis in the second round, beat Lily Back of Tufts 8-1 in the third round and blanked Soumya Wijesekera of Colby 8-0 in the quarterfinals.
Dorismond will face Naomi Williams of Bowdoin on Sunday morning. Williams defeated Beavers' sophomore
Manuela Moscoso (Quito, Ecuador) 8-1 in the second round on Saturday.
Sikharulidze and Shu both advanced to the quarterfinals of the A singles bracket before dropping straight-set decisions. Sikharulidze, who was the tournament's top seed, fell 6-2, 6-4 to eighth-seeded Driscoll of MIT, while Shu was beaten 6-3, 6-3 by Sophia Yang of MIT.
Dorismond, Shu and Sikharulidze will all begin play at 9 a.m. on Sunday.
