Te'Anna Mata (Naples, Fla.) and
Vanessa Vu (Boston, Mass.) each recorded a victory in singles and teamed up for another win in doubles to lead the Babson College women's tennis team on day one of the Bowdoin Invitational on Friday.
The Beavers went 3-2 in singles against Colby with Mata posting a 6-3, 6-3 win over Michaela Landry and Vu winning 6-4, 6-4 over Tina Barrow. Sophomore
Sandra Sikharulidze (Kyiv, Ukraine) was a 6-3, 6-2 winner over Jade Finesetone, while senior
Dana Kamal (Cairo, Egypt) won the opening set before suffering a 1-6, 6-2, 11-9 loss to the Mules' Soumya Wijesekera.
Sophomore
Manuela Moscoso (Quito, Ecuador) also dropped a 6-4, 6-4 decision to Emma Jani of Colby.
Babson split a pair of doubles matches against Bowdoin with Mata and Vu defeating Nina Costalas and Naomi Williams 6-4, while Sikharulidze and Moscoso lost 6-3 to Zoe Sun and Caroline Stuhlfaut.
The Beavers are slated to face Wesleyan and Bowdoin in singles and Colby in doubles on Saturday beginning at 10 a.m.
