BABSON PARK, Mass. — Seniors
Matia Cristiani (San Salvador, El Salvador) and
Grace Starcher (Morristown, N.J.) and sophomore
Sarai Dorismond (Carlsbad, Calif.) won matches in both singles and doubles as No. 6 Babson College breezed past Springfield College, 7-0, in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's tennis match on Senior Day Saturday afternoon at the Babson Tennis Courts.
With the victory, Babson extended its winning streak to eight and improved to 12-3 overall and 6-0 in NEWMAC play. Springfield has dropped two of its last three matches to dip to 9-6 overall and 4-3 in the conference.
Sophomore
Mia Sorrentino (Miami, Fla.) and first-years
Sandra Sikharulidze (Kyiv, Ukraine) and
Elizabeth Shu (Sugar Land, Texas) also posted singles wins for the Beavers, who have won their last four matches by 7-0 scores.
The Beavers captured the doubles point with a clean sweep of the three matches. Matia Cristaini and her sister
Alessandra Cristiani (San Salvador, El Salvador) won at number one, 6-3; Dorismond and first-year
Jolie Wang (Los Altos Hills, Calif.) took the match at number two, 6-2; and Starcher and junior
Dana Kamal (Cairo, Egypt) were winners at number three, 6-2.
Babson conceded just five games on the way to winning the first five singles matches.
Matia Cristiani at number one and Sorrentino at number five won their matches 6-0, 6-0; Sikharulidze downed her opponent at number two, 6-1, 6-0; and Shu and Dorismond were 6-1, 6-1 winners at number three and number four, respectively.
Starcher produced a victory in the closest match of the day, defeating sophomore Ava Shea (Belchertown, Mass.) at number six, 6-2, 6-4.
The Beavers will be right back on the court on Sunday, facing No. 36 Wellesley in a key NEWMAC match at 5:30 p.m. inside the Longfellow Courts in Wellesley adjacent to the Babson campus.
MATCH NOTES
• Babson has won 28 consecutive matches versus Springfield and is 30-4 all-time against the Pride in a series that dates back to 1995.
