No. 5 Women's Tennis Hosts Clark and Skidmore on Saturday

WHAT TO KNOW

•    After winning three matches in three days late last week, the fifth-ranked Babson women's tennis team will play its first outdoor home matches of the season on Saturday against Clark and Skidmore. 

SERIES HISTORY
vs. Clark

•    Babson is 28-2 going back to 1994 against the Cougars. 
•    The Beavers have won 24 straight matches in the series and not dropped a point in their last 12 contests versus the Cougars since 2011. 
•    Senior Matia Cristiani and sophomore Alessandra Cristiani both recorded wins in both singles and doubles for the Green and White, which dropped a total of just two games in singles and two games in doubles in a 7-0 win over Clark last season on April 16, 2025, in Worcester, Mass. 

vs. Skidmore
•    Babson is 0-1 all-time against the Thoroughbreds in a series that goes back to 2015. 
•    Skidmore defeated the Beavers 5-2 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament in the only previous meeting between the teams back on May 9, 2015, in Williamstown, Mass. 

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
•    No. 5 Babson (9-3, 4-0 NEWMAC) has won five consecutive matches after breezing to a 7-0 sweep of Emerson last Saturday. 
•    Senior Grace Starcher, sophomore Mia Sorrentino and first-years Elizabeth Shu and Tina Lu each recorded wins in both singles and doubles for the Beavers, who also got straight-set victories in singles from junior Riya Matharoo and first-year Manuela Moscoso
•    Matia Cristiani is a perfect 25-0 in all matches this season and 9-0 at number one singles, first-year Sandra Sikharulidze (15-4) is 8-0 at number two singles, Liu (10-7) and first-year Jolie Wang (10-5) are tied for third on the team in wins, and Alessandra Cristiani is 8-6 overall and 5-3 in dual matches. 
•    Matia Cristiani and Sikharulidze are 24-2 overall and 9-0 at number one doubles, Wang and sophomore Sarai Dorismond are 7-2 in all matches and 3-0 at number two, and five different pairings have accounted for eight wins at number three. 

SCOUTING THE COUGARS
•    Clark (5-7, 0-4 NEWMAC) has dropped its last four matches after suffering a 6-1 loss at Springfield last Saturday. 
•    Amanda Keith picked up the lone point of the match for the Cougars with a 6-2, 6-3 victory at number six singles. 
•    Clark's win came back on March 4 when it defeated Mount Vernon Nazarene 4-3 to conclude its spring break trip to Hilton Head, S.C. 

SCOUTING THE THOROUGHBREDS
•    Skidmore (4-8) has dropped two of its last three matches and is coming off a 5-2 loss at Rensselaer last Saturday. 
•    Ginevra Muratori rallied for a three-set victory at number one singles, Amelie Gonzalez won in straight sets at number two and the duo also recorded a 6-4 triumph at number one doubles for the Thoroughbreds, who lost the other four singles matches in straight sets. 
•    Murarori is 11-3 in all matches and 10-2 at number one Gonzalez is 9-5 overall and has won her last five matches at number two, and Ellie Lake is 5-2 overall and 3-1 at number three. 
•    Muratori and Gonzalez are 10-6 in all matches and 7-4 at number one doubles, while Ruth Wilson and Mia Rosenberg are 2-6 with both wins coming at number three. 

RISING IN THE RANKINGS
•    After moving up to a then-program-best seventh in the ITA Division III rankings on April 1, the Beavers cracked the top five for the first time in their history when the latest poll was released on Tuesday. 
•    No. 5 Babson is currently 5-3 this spring against teams ranked among the top 35 with the losses coming to No. 2 Wash U., No. 3 Wesleyan and No. 6 Johns Hopkins back in mid-March. The Green and White also defeated the Blue Jays to open the season on January 31 and own a victory over 10th-ranked Bowdoin. 

BEAVER BITES
•    Sikharulidze has started the spring with nine consecutive victories in singles.
•    Moscoso has won four straight matches in singles. 
•    Wang and Dorismond have won their last three doubles matches going back to March 29. 
•    Matia Cristiani owns a perfect 16-0 career mark in both singles and doubles against NEWMAC foes. 

NUMBERS TO KNOW
•    The Beavers are a perfect 12-0 at number one and two singles and number one doubles this season.
•    Babson is 9-0 this year and has won its last 17 matches going back to last season when claiming the doubles point. 
•    The Green and White is 21-1 at the Babson Tennis courts going back to May 3, 2023. 

UP NEXT
•    Babson is off until next Saturday when it hosts Springfield at 1 p.m.
