Fast Start Carries Men's Hoops Past Eastern Nazarene in Season Finale, 70-59

QUINCY, Mass.—Junior James Welch (Needham, Mass.) scored a game-high 19 points to lead three players in double figures as Babson College defeated Eastern Nazarene College, 70-59, in men's college basketball action on Sunday inside the Lahue Physical Education Center.

With its third straight win, Babson closes out the season at 8-2. Eastern Nazarene is now 0-2.

Welch was 7-of-13 from the floor and knocked down four three-pointers, while junior Colin Bradanese added 12 points and seven boards for the Beavers. Classmate Beau Smith (Germantown, N.Y.) came off the bench to score 11 points on 5-of-7 shooting in the win.

Senior Ozzy Traill (Valley Stream, N.Y.) scored 11 points and junior Corey McGhee (Alexandria, Va.) added 10 points, six rebounds and three assists to lead the Lions.

The Green and White made nine of its first 16 shots and got six points from Welch and five apiece from Bradanese and Smith to build a 22-5 lead just over eight minutes into the contest. Senior Matt Pattyson (Doylestown, Pa.) extended the margin to 29-10 with a three-pointer at the 6:27 mark and Welch and Bradanese combined to score the Beavers' final 10 points of half for a 39-21 advantage at the break.

Senior Andrew Jaworski (Tolland, Conn.) opened the second half with a jumper, Bradanese finished a hoop in the paint and Pattyson buried another triple to make it 46-25 with 18:13 to play in the game. Bradanese added another bucket and first-year John Gorgol (Scottsdale, Ariz.) scored off a feed from Smith to give Babson its biggest lead of the afternoon at 50-28 with 15:07 remaining.

Eastern Nazarene pulled within 59-47 on a three-pointer by Will Zarges (Quincy, Mass.) with 4:51 left but Welch answered with a triple of his own on the ensuing possession for the Beavers.

Babson shot 45.2 percent from the floor and scored 26 points off of 22 turnovers by the Lions.

Eastern Nazarene, which shot just 38.6 percent, finished with a 42-33 edge on the glass.

GAME NOTES
• The Beavers are now 18-12 all-time against Eastern Nazarene.
• The Babson subs outscored their counterparts 32-17 in Sunday's win.
• Jaworski wrapped up his career with 1,189 points, which ranks 18th in program history. Additionally, his 151 three-pointers are tied for seventh on the program's career list.
