MARLBOROUGH, Mass.—The Babson College men's basketball team was picked to finish second in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) preseason coaches' poll that was released on Friday morning.
Four-time defending regular season champion WPI received three first-place votes and finished atop the poll with 57 points, while Babson earned a pair of first-place votes and finished second with 53 points. Defending tournament champ Clark was third with three top votes and 51 points, Emerson finished fourth with 42 points, and MIT claimed one first-place vote and ended up fifth with 31 points.
Babson returns 11 veterans, including four players who started at least 10 games, from last year's squad. The Beavers finished 16-10 overall and 10-6 in conference play to register their 10th consecutive top-three finish in the league standings. Led by 31st-year head coach
Stephen Brennan, the Green and White have appeared in the NCAA Tournament eight times in the past 11 seasons.
The Beavers open the season at home against local rival Brandeis on November 8 at Staake Gymnasium at 7 p.m.
