Small College Basketball Hall of Fame Release

KANSAS CITY, Mo.—
Babson College men's basketball associate head coach Joey Flannery '17 was selected for induction into the Small College Basketball (SCB) Hall of Fame late last month.

Flannery is among a group of 12 players, coaches and contributors chosen by the SCB Hall of Fame Committee for induction in 2025. The SCB Hall of Fame ceremony will be held on October 31 in Lakeland, Fla.

The most decorated player in program history, Flannery was a two-time National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division III Player of the Year and capped his career by earning D3hoops.com Player of the Year honors after winning a national title in 2017. He garnered NABC and D3hoops.com Northeast Region Player of the Year accolades in 2015, 2016 and 2017, and graduated as the Beavers' only three-time All-America selection.

Flannery averaged 22.0 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists in 119 career games. He ranks first in Babson history and ninth in Division III history with 2,620 points, and also set program records for made field goals (863) and made free throws (689). Additionally, Flannery is fourth in career three-pointers (205), seventh in rebounds (779) and blocked shots (64), and tied for seventh all-time in assists (296).

Flannery burst onto the scene as a first-year in 2013-14 averaging 19.0 points on 54.7 percent shooting to go along with 6.2 rebounds in 27 starts to earn the first of four consecutive New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Player of the Year awards. He scored 20 or more points 12 times and helped the Beavers return to the NCAA Tournament while posting their first 20-win season since 2004. In addition to his conference accolades, he became the program's first D3hoops.com Northeast Region Rookie of the Year selection.

As a sophomore, Flannery averaged 21.5 points, 6.2 rebounds and 2.0 assists in helping Babson win a then-school-record 29 games on the way to reaching the Final Four for the first time in school history. He scored 30 points in a 72-62 victory over Springfield as the Beavers' claimed their first NEWMAC Tournament championship since 2004 and averaged 23.0 points in the NCAA Tournament, which included scoring 27 points in a lost to Augustana (Ill.) in the national semifinals.

Flannery earned the first of two straight NABC Division III Player of the Year awards in 2016 after averaging a career-high 23.9 points, 6.6 rebounds and 2.8 assists while leading the Green and White to its second consecutive NEWMAC regular season and tournament titles and a trip to the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16. He passed Tom Groth '83 as the program's all-time leading scorer against Hartwick in the first round of the national tournament and ranked 13th in Division III in scoring.

Flannery and the Beavers put together a historic campaign in 2016-17, culminating with the program's first Division III national championship. He averaged 23.4 points and career highs of 7.1 rebound and 3.8 assists as Babson went 31-2 and was the top-ranked team in the country throughout January and February.

The only four-time conference player of the Year, Flannery scored a single-season school record 750 points and averaged 27.8 points over six NCAA Tournament games on his way to earning Final Four Most Outstanding Player honors. The Beavers overcame a 25-point deficit against then-No. 1 Whitman in the national semifinals and Flannery came up with a game-saving blocked shot to preserve a 79-78 victory over Augustana (Ill.) in the national title game.

A two-time SCB Bevo Francis Award finalist, Flannery returned to Babson back in August following a six-year stint on the men's basketball staff at Villanova University. He also played one season of professional basketball for Real Murcia in Spain's third division in 2017-18.

Flannery was inducted into the Babson Athletics Hall of Fame back in September.
