Timmy Mulvey (Reading, Mass.) and first-year
Thomas Ferdinando (Andover, Mass.) were all recognized when the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) and D3hoop.com announced their Region II teams on Tuesday.
Ferdinando was selected as the D3hoops.com Region II Rookie of the Year and named to the all-region second team alongside O'Toole, while all three players garnered NABC District II accolades. Mulvey was named to the first team while both Ferdinando and O'Toole claimed a spot on the second team.
An All-New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) first-team selection and Rookie of the Year, Ferdinando earned the program's first D3hoops.com Region II Rookie of the Year honor since 2014 after averaging 16.8 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.1 steals. He shot 44.3 percent from the floor, 41.4 percent from three-point range and 85.5 percent at the free throw line, and ranked ninth in Division III with a first-year program record 87 three-pointers, 20th nationally in three-pointers per game (3.00) and 28th in three-point field goal percentage.
Ferdinando scored in double figures in each of the Beavers' final 20 contests and surpassed 20 points 10 times in 29 starts.
Mulvey followed up his first-team all-conference selection by earning NABC Region II first-team accolades after averaging 16.1 points, 2.4 assists and 2.1 rebounds in 27 starts. His 102 three-pointers ranked second in both Division III in single-season program history, and he also finished second nationally in three-pointers per game (3.52) and 12th in the country in three-point field goal percentage (43.0).
Mulvey scored in double figures in 26 of 29 contests, including each of the final 17, and finished with 20 or more points on eight occasions. He also made at least three three-pointers in 16 straight outings to close the season.
O'Toole, who also earned All-NEWMAC first-team laurels, put together the best season of his career averaging 10.2 points, 8.9 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.7 steals and 1.1 blocks in 29 starts. He posted seven double-doubles, led the team in steals and his 118 offensive rebounds are the most for any Babson player since the statistic starting being tracked in 1999-2000.
Additionally, O'Toole's 258 total rebounds were the eighth most in single-season program history and ranked 27th in Division III, while his 4.07 offensive boards per game rank sixth nationally.
A starter in 98 of his 103 career games, O'Toole averaged 7.4 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.4 steals, and concluded his career tied for fifth on the program's all-time list in blocked shots (75), eighth in rebounds (771) and 13th in steals (147).
Babson, which captured its third NEWMAC Tournament title in four seasons, concluded the year at 22-7 after falling to No. 1 Trinity in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
