Box Score BABSON PARK, Mass.—Junior Max Gussen (Medford, N.J.) led five players in double figures with a career-high 19 points and Babson College shot 59.7 percent on the way to defeating visiting Lasell University, 97-55, in men's college basketball action on Sunday afternoon inside Staake Gymnasium.
With the win, Babson improves to 4-0, while Lasell slips to 0-2.
Gussen was 8-of-11 from the floor and tied for game-high honors with eight rebounds, while senior Andrew Jaworski (Tolland, Conn.) contributed 13 points, eight boards and a game-high seven assists for the Beavers. Junior James Welch (Needham, Mass.) scored 12 points, classmate Colin Bradanese (Billerica, Mass.) added 11 points and first-year John Gorgol (Scottsdale, Ariz.) chipped in with 10 points in the win.
Senior Jonathan Friberg (North Attleboro, Mass.) finished with 16 points and seven rebounds, while classmate Kevin Vanderhorst (Lawrence, Mass.) added 14 points, eight boards and two assists to lead the Lasers.
Leading 9-4 just over three minutes into the contest, Welch came off the bench and scored eight straight points to spark a 10-0 Babson run. Jaworski knocked down a jumper and canned a three-pointer around a transition layup by Welch, and Bradanese scored in the paint to stretch the Beavers' lead to 28-9 with 11:59 to go in the opening half.
The Green and White, which led by as many as 22 in the opening stanza and 45-28 at the break, opened the second half with a 15-2 run. Gorgol and sophomore Andrew Kirkpatrick (Winnetka, Ill.) scored five points apiece as the Beavers pushed their advantage to 60-30 on a free throw by Bradanese with 16:26 to play.
Lasell responded with back-to-back hoops by senior Kevin Nunez (Dorchester, Mass.) and Vanderhorst to pull within 62-38 three minutes later, but it was as close as they would get. Gussen exploded for 15 points during a 33-8 spurt that also saw junior Teddy Sourlis (Rumson, N.J.) and sophomore Aaron Gao (Bridgewater, N.J.) knock down a pair of three-pointers as Babson took its biggest lead of the game at 95-46 with under five minutes to go.
The Beavers were 14-of-31 (45.2 percent) from beyond the arc and got a season-high 45 points from their bench. The Green and White also outscored the Lasers 38-28 in the paint and finished with a 41-32 advantage on the glass.
Babson returns to action next Saturday when it hosts St. Joseph (Conn.) at 1 p.m.
GAME NOTES
 • The Beavers are now 16-3 all-time against Lasell and have won nine straight meetings in the series.
 • Jaworski passed Matt Miller '93 (1,109), Glenn Witkoski '96 (1,109) and Bradley Jacks '18 (1,107) to move into 19th place on Babson's all-time scoring list with 1,113 points.
 • The Beavers have won 20 of their last 23 games since the start of last year when making at least eight three-point field goals.
