Box Score NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass.—Junior Brendan Collins (Abington, Mass.) drove in the go-ahead runs with a single in the top of the seventh inning and visiting Babson College plated runs in each of its final five at-bats en route to a 7-3 win over UMass-Dartmouth in non-conference baseball action on Monday afternoon at the UMD Athletic Complex.
With its fourth straight victory, Babson moves to 19-14 on the season while UMass-Dartmouth falls to 11-17.
Senior Chris Kucher (Westwood, Mass.) had a pair of hits, including a first-inning home run, drove in a pair of runs and scored three times on the day for the Beavers. Senior Trevor Boyce (Canton, Mass.) and sophomore Dillon Gonzalez (Beverly, Mass.) each picked up one hit apiece and scored a run, while senior Conor Kortmann (Manalapan, N.J.) and first-year George Crowley (Watertown, Mass.) each had one RBI.
First-year Hunter Silva (Bourne, Mass.) earned the win to even his record at 3-3 on the season, allowing just three runs on six hits to go along with a pair of strikeouts over a career-high 7 2/3 innings. Sophomore Connor Allen (Madison, N.J.) got the final four outs of the game to earn his second save of the season.
Sophomores Ryan Medeiro (Acushnet, Mass.) and Alex Newton (Saco, Maine) combined for four of UMass-Dartmouth's six hits on the day, while classmate George Aggostini (Dighton, Mass.) had a hit and drove in a pair of runs. Senior John Quigg (Weymouth, Mass.) started and gave up three runs and five hits in five innings, earning a no-decision, as first-year Paul Mahoney (North Andover, Mass.) took the loss for the Corsairs.
UMass-Dartmouth took its first lead of the day when Aggostini singled home two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, but Babson quickly rallied in the top half of the sixth inning as sophomore Sean MacPhee (Framingham, Mass.) led off with a walk and then stole second base. Collins followed with a single and one batter later, MacPhee scored to tie the game at 3-3 on a Crowley groundball.
After Collins put the Beavers ahead in the seventh, senior John Botelho (Tempe, Ariz.) scored on a wild pitch in the eighth inning and Kucher came home on a Kortmann sacrifice fly in the ninth for a pair of insurance runs.
Babson will be back in action on Wednesday afternoon when they play host to No. 18 Southern Maine at 3:30pm while UMass-Dartmouth hosts Rhode Island College tomorrow afternoon at 3:30pm.
