Box Score CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- The Babson College baseball team managed just four hits and one unearned run off MIT starter Nicholas Locascio as the Beavers fell to the Engineers, 7-1, in a NEWMAC matchup on Tuesday.
Junior Michael Bortolotti took the loss on the mound for Babson (7-8, 2-5 NEWMAC), allowing four runs - only two of which were earned - on eight hits, walking four and striking out six in 6 1/3 innings. The defeat was his first of the season as he dropped to 2-1 on the year.
After MIT grabbed an early 1-0 lead, the Beavers knotted the score in the top of the second. Senior Conor Kortmann reached on an error by the center fielder, stole second, moved to third on a single to left by sophomore Sean MacPhee, and scored on a sacrifice fly to left by junior Sean Lanahan.
Unfortunately for the Green and White, that would be the lone run of the day allowed by Locascio, who retired 19 straight between Kortmann's single in the second and a one-out single by Lanahan in the eighth. Senior Chris Kucher and MacPhee each recorded basehits off reliever Henry Zhu in the ninth, but it would not be enough to beat the Engineers, who scored one in the fifth, two in the sixth, and three in the eighth to claim the 7-1 win.
