Box Score AUBURNDALE, Fla. -- The heart of the order combined for nine hits and five RBIs and first-year Hunter Silva pitched six stellar innings of relief as the Babson baseball team rallied to defeat William Paterson, 9-5, on Wednesday.
Coming on in the second inning, Silva held WP to just three runs on six hits, walked one and struck out four in six innings out of the bullpen. The win was the first of his collegiate career.
While Silva was holding the opposing offense at bay, the Beavers combined timely hitting with some WP fielding mistakes to rally from an early 4-1 deficit. Babson scored four unearned runs in the fifth, including one on an RBI-double by sophomore Sean MacPhee, and three more in the seventh, with first-year George Crowley joining MacPhee with run-scoring singles. Senior Conor Kortmann added an RBI-hit in the eighth as Babson completed the 9-5 comeback win.
Senior Chris Kucher went 3-for-5 with three runs scored, while MacPhee also went 3-for-5 with a pair of RBIs. Crowley tacked on two hits, three runs, and two RBIs in four at-bats, and senior John Botelho and sophomore Rob Caggiano each added a pair of safeties.
The Beavers now take a day off before playing two contests on Friday. The first will be against Elmhurst at 9:30 a.m., with the second game against Division I Dartmouth immediately following at 11:30 a.m.
