Box Score 2 WINTER HAVEN, Fla. -- The Babson College baseball team opened its spring break trip to Florida with a split with regional foe Trinity College on Tuesday. The Beavers took the opener, 4-2, before succombing to a late rally in a 10-9 loss in game two.
Trailing 2-1 late in game one, Babson plated three two-out runs in the bottom of the sixth to claim a 4-2 victory. Junior Brendan Collins singled in senior Michael Duffy with the tying run and later scored the go-ahead run on a double by sophomore Sean MacPhee. Senior John Botelho then knocked in MacPhee with a single to give the Beavers a 4-2 lead.
Senior Brian Swanton started and gave up one earned run on four hits, walked three and struck out two in 5 2/3 innings of work. First-year Nick Ahearn then came on and earned the win with 1 1/3 scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and striking out one.
MacPhee went 3-for-3 with an RBI in the opener, while Botelho finished 2-for-3 with a run driven in.
In game two, the Beavers snapped a 4-4 tie with five runs in the top of the seventh, with senior Trevor Boyce and first-year George Crowley each recording RBI singles. However, the Bantams rallied with six in the bottom half of the inning, with Alex Almeida tying the game with a two-run double and Michael Rueger following with a game-winning single.
MacPhee had two more hits in the nightcap for Babson, while Crowley, senior captain Conor Kortmann, and sophomore Joe Zanca each joined him with two hits apiece.
