Men's Basketball Blasts Newbury, 82-43

BROOKLINE, Mass.—Senior Matt Palazini (Franklin, Mass.) buried seven three-pointers en route to a game-high 22 points, while first-year Joey Flannery (Acton, Mass.) chipped in with 19 points and eight rebounds, helping visiting Babson College cruise to a 82-43 victory over Newbury College in non-conference men's basketball action on Wednesday night at Pappas Gymnasium.

With the win, Babson is now 5-1 on the season, while Newbury drops to 0-6.

Palazini went 6-for-9 from beyond in the arc and scored 19 first-half points for the Beavers. Flannery was 5-for-6 from the floor and a perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw on the night. First-year Sam Bohmiller (Franklin, Mass.) chipped in with 12 points, junior John Wickey (Manchester, N.H.) added nine on 4-for-5 shooting, and classmate David Mack (Holden, Mass.) contributed six points and a game-high nine boards.

Senior Eric Watson (New Rochelle, N.Y.) led the Nighthawks, who shot just 23.7 percent (14-for-59) for the game, with 11 points.

Babson never trailed in the contest and opened up a 24-6 lead just 7:21 into the first half behind 12 points from Palazini and nine from Flannery. Newbury junior Cameron Owen (Concord, Mass.) knocked down back-to-back threes to cut the deficit to 24-12, but the Green and White closed the stanza with a 29-9 run, including nine straight points from Bohmiller just before halftime, to build a 53-21 at the break.

Six points from Flannery and five from Wickey helped the Beavers open the second half on a 21-4 spurt, pushing the lead to 74-25 with 9:50 to go in the game.

The Green and White shot a season-high 56 percent (28-for-50) from the field, and knocked down a season-high 18 free throws. The Beavers outscored the Nighthawks 32-14 in the paint and scored 18 points off 14 Newbury turnovers.

Babson returns to action on Saturday when it takes on Brandeis University as part of the Big 4 Challenge hosted by Tufts University at 3 p.m. in Medford. Newbury will travel to 14th-ranked WPI for its third game in three nights on Thursday at 7 p.m.
