Women's Tennis Celebrates Senior Day With 8-1 Win Over Salve Regina

BABSON PARK, Mass. – The Babson College women's tennis team capped off its 2009-10 season with an 8-1 win over visiting Salve Regina University at the Boston Sports Club on Friday night. With the win, the Beavers ended the year with a record of 8-9, while the Seahawks fell to 6-11.

Friday marked the final collegiate home match for Babson senior tri-captains Jes Huang (Andover, Mass.), Liz Sheerin (Melrose, Mass.), and Lorena Becerra (Key Biscayne, Fla.). Although Becerra did not play against Salve Regina, Huang and Sheerin capped off their careers by teaming up for an 8-5 win at number one doubles. Sophomores Ashley Lake (Brockton, Mass.) and Rebecca Stone (Dover, Mass.) also added a doubles victory for the Beavers, winning 8-0 at number two.

Stone chipped in with another victory in singles play, winning her match at number one, 7-5, 6-1. Junior Monica Mercer (Woodinville, Wash.) added a 6-2, 6-2 win at two, Lake contributed a 6-2, 6-7, 1-0 (10-5) suber-breaker win at four, and first-year Victoria Lorido (Miami, Fla.) earned a 6-2, 6-1 victory at five. Salve Regina picked up its lone point at number three singles, where senior Jessica Timpano (Narragansett, R.I.) recorded a 6-0, 0-6, 1-0 (10-8) super-breaker victory.
