NEWTON, Mass. -- Lasell College used a 13-0 run midway through the
half to take control of the contest as the host Lasers defeated
visiting Babson College, 72-61, in non-conference men's hoop action
on Thurdsay night. It was the fourth straight defeat for the
Beavers, who saw their record dip to 3-5, while Lasell improved to
3-4.
Forward Javon Williams (Mattapan, MA) played well all around for
the Lasers, scoring 19 points. He also picked up six
rebounds, four steals, two blocks and two assists. Sophomore
Dominik Orlow (Slupsk, Poland) scored 13 points while senior Sean
Joynes (Philadelphia, PA) and freshman Justin Harris (New Orleans,
LA) each scored 12 points.
For Babson, Marcus McDermott (Milton, MA) led
the Beavers in scoring with 13 followed by Russell
Braithwaite (Brooklyn, NY), who scored 10 points and
collected nine rebounds. Junior Dana Mauro (Wethersfield,
CT) chipped in with six points and seven boards,
while junior captains Matt Zoia (Nashua,
NH) and Eric White (Hyattsville,
MD) each netted nine points in the loss.
The Beavers led for almost the entire first half, taking a 31-27
lead into the break. Babson then maintained its advantage for the
first five minutes of the second stanza, and the Green and White
still led, 42-41, with 14:02 left. However, Lasell used a 13-0 run
over the next three and a half minutes to go up 54-42, and the
Beavers never got closer than 10 the rest of the way as Lasell came
away with the 72-61 win.
