Dec. 4, 2007

Box Score

NEWTON, Mass. - Senior tri-captain Kyle McDonald drained his fifth three-pointer of the game with a minute left and classmate Greg Bush drew a key charge with four seconds remaining to help the Babson men's basketball team defeat host Lasell College, 68-66, in a non-conference matchup on Tuesday night. With the win, the Beavers improved to 3-5 overall, while Lasell dropped to 4-2.

After Babson called a timeout with the game tied, 64-64, McDonald knocked down a long three from the top of the key to put Babson in front, 67-64 with 1:08 on the clock. Lasell answered with a pair of free throws to make it a one-point game with 49 seconds left, and the two teams traded empty possessions for the next 25 seconds.

The Lasers had two chances to regain the lead in the final 10 seconds but were denied by the Babson defense. After a missed three-point attempt with 10 seconds left, Lasell got another opportunity by grabbing the offensive rebound, but Bush stepped up and took a huge charge on the left side of the lane with 4.1 left in regulation. Junior Zach Etten then drew a foul and sank one of two to put Babson in front by two with 2.9 seconds left, and the Lasers' last-second attempt from the left corner came up short as the Beavers held on for the win.

Coming off a career-high 32 points against #8 Washington University on Saturday, McDonald continued to light it up for the Beavers, scoring 15 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the field, including 5-of-6 from beyond the arc. In addition, the senior point guard also led the team with nine rebounds and five assists. Senior Brian MacDonald also scored 15 points to go along with six boards in the win, while Bush shot 5-for-6 to finish with 12 points. Etten had another solid performance for Babson, amassing 11 points and eight rebounds, and junior Pat Belniak tossed in seven points and recorded two steals off the bench.

Lasell was led by the hot hand of Brad Caravoulias, who scored 22 points while hitting six three-pointers, three of which came during a Lasers run that erased a 57-45 Babson lead midway through the second half. Jose Guitian added 13 points and eight rebounds, and guard Dwayne Powell contributed five points, four boards, and six assists.
