DiGiovanni, Mullaney Sweep NEWMAC Field Hockey Weekly Awards

MARLBOROUGH, Mass.— On the heels of a 2-1 week and a significant non-conference road win, Babson College seniors Helen DiGiovanni (Harwich, Mass.) and Grace Mullaney (Boxford, Mass.) were named New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Field Hockey Offensive and Defensive Athletes of the Week Monday morning.

DiGiovanni scored twice and provided one game-winning goal as No. 6 Babson split a pair of games against nationally-ranked foes. The senior forward contributed a third-quarter goal in Tuesday's 4-0 win over Saint Joseph's (Maine) and then tallied the game's only goal 2:19 into the second quarter to help the Beavers knock off No. 5 Middlebury 1-0 on Sunday for their first victory in the series since 2017.

A four-year veteran and first-year starter, DiGiovanni is tied for fourth in the NEWMAC with four goals this season and tied for the league lead with two game-winning goals.

Mullaney was terrific in her central defensive midfielder role this past week as Babson recorded a pair of shutout victories in three games. The Beavers held Saint Joseph's (Maine) to just one shot in Tuesday's 4-0 win and bounced back from a 2-0 loss to No. 7 Williams on Thursday by knocking off No. 5 Middlebury 1-0 on Sunday for the first time since 2017. Mullaney helped the Green and White hold the Panthers without a shot or a penalty corner in the first half while allowing just three shots and three corners in the match. She led a penalty corner unit that successfully defended 11 of their opponents' 13 chances over all three contests.

The Beaver senior helps a Babson defense that has produced three shutouts in five games this season and ranks third on the team in scoring with three points on a goal and an assist.

Babson (3-2) returns home for their next three games, beginning Tuesday vs. the University of New England at 6 p.m. at MacDowell Field.
