BABSON PARK, Mass.— Junior
Penny Baroni (Dennis, Mass.) registered her second career hat trick as No. 6 Babson College rolled past the University of New England, 5-0, in non-conference field hockey action Tuesday evening at MacDowell Field.
With the victory, the Beavers won for the second time in three days to improve to 4-2 on the season while the Nor'Easters dropped to 1-4.

Charlotte Roe (Wayne, Pa.) tallied a goal and an assist, senior
Helen DiGiovanni (Harwich, Mass.) scored one goal, and senior
Emma Smith (Kenilworth, Ill.) picked up an assist in the win for the Green and White.
First-year Riley Curtin (Hopkinton, Mass.) had a standout game for the Nor'Easters, making 18 saves in goal for her second double-digit save effort in her last three games.
The Beavers started things off with a pair of first-quarter scores. Baroni opened the scoring on a penalty corner as she took one shot from the left side of the arc, and after Curtin kicked in back her, she smashed a reverse shot past Curtin just 3:18 into the game. DiGiovanni doubled the Beaver lead six minutes later, burying a ball in a scramble near the right post for her fifth of the season, with Roe picking up an assist.
UNE stayed close, registering its only two shots in the second quarter and limiting the hosts to just three attempts as the teams went into the break with the hosts leading 2-0.
Babson upped the pressure on the UNE goal in the third quarter, unloading 14 shots, including seven on target. Curtin was up to the task on all seven as the Beavers settled for the two-goal lead heading into the fourth quarter despite a shot advantage of 21-2.
The floodgates opened in the final stanza and the Green and White tacked on three goals. Baroni notched her second of the game on a penalty corner in the 51st minute, as she took a pass from Smith on the left side and ripped a shot into the left side of the goal. Baroni finished off her hat trick in the 53rd minute when she buried a shot from the slot past Curtin to make it 4-0.
Roe wrapped up the scoring in the 55th minute when she dribbled about 20 yards down the right side before unleashing a shot past Curtin inside the left post for her first goal of the season.
The Beavers finished with a 35-2 advantage in shots, including a whopping 28-0 in the second half. The Beavers took all 13 penalty corners in the game.
Babson opens New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Saturday when it hosts Wellesley at 12 p.m. at MacDowell Field. UNE plays at Nichols on Friday in a Conference of New England (CNE) match-up in Dudley, Mass., beginning at 4 p.m.

• Baroni's hat trick was her first since scoring three times in a 4-3 victory at Endicott in the season opener on August 29, 2025.
