BABSON PARK, Mass.—After winning its first New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) championship since 2014 on Sunday, the Babson College women's tennis team found out that it will travel to Middlebury College for the opening weekend of the Division III NCAA Tournament when the bracket was unveiled on Monday afternoon.
No. 8 Babson (16-4), which defeated No. 7 MIT 4-2 in Sunday's conference final, will travel to Middlebury for the second year in a row for the NCAA Tournament. The Beavers are making their fifth appearance in the Division III championship and second in a row under second-year head coach
Emma Hall.
The Green and White received a first round bye and will face the winner of Friday's match between No. 37 Stevens Institute of Technology (16-2), which captured its fifth straight MAC Freedom title, and Rhode Island College (16-0), which won its sixth Little East Conference championship in the last nine seasons.
Saturday's other second round contest will feature No. 12 Middlebury (13-6) taking on either NESCAC rival Tufts University (12-6) or Hartwick College (14-4). The 17th-ranked Jumbos and the Hawks are both making their second consecutive NCAA appearance, while the host Panthers are back in the Division III Championship for the 16th year in a row.
The second round winners will meet on Sunday with a spot in the NCAA quarterfinals on the line.
Match times for all three rounds will be announced later on Monday.
