MARLBOROUGH, Mass.— The ninth-ranked Babson College men's tennis team swept the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) weekly awards on Monday as sophomore Edward Wang (Burr Ridge, Ill./Phillips Academy Andover) was named Singles Player of the Week and the duo of Wang and fellow sophomore Sebastian Mendoza (Weston, Fla./Cypress Bay) was tabbed as Doubles Team of the Week.
 
Wang received the weekly honor for the second time this season and the Beaver tandem was recognized in doubles for the first time.
 
Wang went 2-0 with straight-set wins at both number one and two singles for ninth-ranked Babson. He defeated Pablo Munoz 6-1, 6-4 at number two singles in Friday's 7-0 sweep of Wheaton and then recorded a 6-2, 7-5 victory over Niki Lavu at number one to help the Beavers defeat Haverford, 5-2, on Saturday.
 
An All-NEWMAC performer in both singles and doubles as well as the NEWMAC Rookie of the Year last season, Wang has a 12-5 singles record this season, including 4-0 in dual matches at number one and 5-3 at number two. He has upped his career singles mark to 36-9, which ranks ninth on Babson's career singles wins list.
 
Wang and Mendoza went 2-0 in doubles by cruising to a pair of victories at number two for Babson. They downed Paul Berteaux and Pablo Munoz of Wheaton, 6-2, in Friday's 7-0 conference sweep of the Lyons and then posted a 6-1 victory over Teo Bortan and Niki Lavu to help the Beavers defeat Haverford, 5-2, on Saturday.
 
The Babson duo has a team-best 20-6 doubles record this season, including a 6-5 mark in dual matches as well as the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) New England Doubles title. Wang is 21-7 in all doubles matches and Mendoza is 22-6, the top two records on the team.
 
The ninth-ranked Beavers (10-3, 2-0 NEWMAC) are slated to play rival and No. 25 MIT on Tuesday and NEWMAC foe Emerson on Wednesday at the Babson Tennis Courts, weather permitting.
