Allen, Almquist Earn NEWMAC Men’s Lacrosse Weekly Honors

MARLBOROUGH, Mass.— The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) weekly honors continue to roll in for the No. 5/9 Babson College men's lacrosse team as graduate student Joey Allen (Philadelphia, Pa.) and sophomore Andrew Almquist (Wakefield, Mass.) were named NEWMAC Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, on Monday.

It's been a steady stream of weekly conference awards for Babson this year, which includes Allen receiving the offensive honor for the third time this season and Almquist being recognized for defense for the fifth occasion this spring.

Allen produced four goals and six assists for 10 points over two games for No. 5/7 Babson. He scored twice and added one assist in Tuesday's 17-8 loss to No. 1/1 Tufts and followed it up with two goals and a season-high five assists for seven points in Friday's 18-5 victory at Clark. Allen did all of his damage over the first quarter and a half as he had a hand in seven of the Beavers' first 10 goals.

A starter in 13 of his 14 games this season, Allen leads the Beavers in scoring with 50 points on 32 goals and 18 assists. He ranks fourth in the NEWMAC in both goals and points and 10th in assists. He also leads the NEWMAC and ranks fourth in Division III with 10 man-up goals.

Almquist made two starts posting a 12.17 goals against average and a .604 save percentage while stopping 32 shots and scooping up three ground balls in just over 103 minutes of action. The sophomore goalkeeper made 19 saves, which was just two shy of his career high, in Tuesday's 17-8 loss to No. 1/1 Tufts. Almquist followed it up by stopping 13 of 17 shots over the first three quarters as the Beavers cruised past Clark, 18-5.

A starter in all 15 games this season, Almquist leads the NEWMAC in both goals against average (8.60) and save percentage (.616) as well as total saves (196). He ranks 11th in Division III in save percentage and 34th in goals against average.

The Beavers (13-2, 6-0 NEWMAC) can wrap up the NEWMAC regular season title on Saturday with a win over MIT at 1 p.m. in Cambridge.
