No. 11 Men's Tennis Downs No. 26 MIT, 5-2

Box Score BABSON PARK, Mass.—Sophomore Edward Wang (Burr Ridge, Ill.) recorded victories in both singles and doubles to help No. 11 Babson College defeat No. 26 MIT, 5-2, New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men's tennis action on Tuesday afternoon at the Babson Tennis Courts. 

Babson, which has won two matches in a row and five of its last six going back to April 3, improves to 13-4 overall and 5-0 in conference play. MIT has dropped two of its last three matches and is now 9-6 overall and 4-1 in the NEWMAC. 

Wang and sophomore Sebastian Mendoza (Weston, Fla.) recorded a 6-3 victory at number two doubles and the Beavers clinched the doubles point at number three where senior Martin Mejia (Cali, Colombia) and junior Louis Bourn (Geneva, Switzerland) downed Sanghyuk Im (Irvine, Calif.) and Rushil Patel (Duncan, S.C.), 6-4. The Engineers claimed the remaining doubles match at number one where Adam Sun (Glendale, Ariz.) and Grant Gallagher (Irvine, Calif.) defeated Babson senior Alexander Merson (Palisades Park, N.J.) and first-year Maxim Zlobinsky (Greenvale, N.Y.), 6-4. 

The Green and White recorded three of its four wins in singles in straight sets, highlighted by Merson beating Hunter Liao (Hagerstown, Md.) 6-4, 7-6 (7-2) at number one and Wang picking up his second point of the afternoon with a 6-2, 6-4 decision over Sun at number two. First-year Sourish Gadhi (Morganville, N.J.) was a 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) winner over Shrish Choudhary (Fremont, Calif.) at number five and fellow rookie Max Lidman (Stockholm, Sweden) rallied for a 6-7 (4-7), 6-1, 6-2 victory over Gallagher at number six. 

MIT's Siddharth Marathe (Pune, India) defeated Zlobinsky 6-4, 6-4 at number three singles, while Tyler Li (San Diego, Calif.) was a 2-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) winner over Mendoza at number four. 

Both teams return to action on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. as Babson travels to Coast Guard while MIT visits Springfield. 

MATCH NOTES
•    The Beavers have won three straight matches against the Engineers and extended their NEWMAC winning streak to 14 with Tuesday's victory. 
•    Wang and Mendoza recorded their 22nd doubles victory of the year on Tuesday, which is the most by a pairing in single-season program history. 
•    Babson has won 18 straight matches at the Babson Tennis Courts dating back to April 22, 2023. 
•    The Green and White is 11-1 this season when winning the doubles point.
