Vanya Bansal (Noida, India) closed with a 2-over 74 to finish in a tie for fourth place and the 22nd-ranked Babson College women's golf team posted its low score of the year on the way to placing eighth at the Jack Leaman Invitational on Sunday at The Orchards Golf Club.
The Beavers shot 312 on Sunday and finished with a 36-hole total of 57-over 633, which left them one shot in back of No. 11 Hamilton, two shots behind No. 13 Middlebury and just four off the pace of No. 15 Wellesley (629), which came in fifth. No. 2 NYU won the event for the second year in a row with a score of 21-over 597, No. 4 Williams (603) came in second, one shot ahead of No. 6 Amherst.
Bansal put together a terrific final round that featured three birdies and five bogeys to post a 36-hole total of 5-over 149. Starting on the fourth hole, she offset a pair of early bogeys with birdies on Nos. 9, 15 and 16 to get back to even for the day before carding a pair of bogeys late in the round.
Junior
Victoria Salim (Semarang, Indonesia) and sophomore
Camila Amaya (Singer Island, Fla.) bounced back from a tough first round by shooting a 6-over 78 on Sunday. Amaya made back-to-back birdies to begin the day and was even-par through nine holes, while Salim played her first 10 holes in 2-over.
Amaya tied for 40th place overall alongside sophomore
Hannah McCarthy (Toronto, Ontario) and first-year
Katie Yang (Orlando, Fla.) at 19-over 163. McCarthy made one birdie en route to a 10-over 82 in Sunday's final round, while Yang carded an 11-over 83.
Babson will conclude its regular season at the Northeast Invitational next Saturday and Sunday at The Ranch Golf Club in Southwick, Mass.
TOURNAMENT NOTES
• In addition to posting its best score of the spring, the Beavers' 312 total on Sunday was their best in five rounds at The Orchards GC over the last three seasons.
• Bansal tied for third in the 66-player field in both par 3 (Even) and par 4 (+3) scoring.
• The Jack Leaman Invitational field featured eight teams ranked among the top 23 in the most recent Scoreboard Division III rankings.
