Women's Golf at the Ann S. Batchelder Tri-Match

WHAT TO KNOW
•    For the second consecutive season, the Babson women's golf team will open its season at Nehoiden Golf Club on Saturday afternoon when it takes on Wellesley and Saint Anselm in a three-team, 18-hole stroke-play event. 

LAST TIME AT NEHOIDEN GOLF CLUB
•    Babson went 2-2 at the Ann Batchelder Match Play event on September 13-14 of last season, defeating Amherst 4.5-0-5 and the host Blue 3-2 on day one before falling to Middlebury 3-2 and Bowdoin 4-1 to conclude the weekend. 
•    Sophomore Vanya Bansal followed up an opening 76 with a 1-over 73 on day two and was a perfect 4-0 in her four nine-hole matches, while junior Hannah McCarthy went 3-1 while shooting 77-78. 
•    Junior Alice Zhu went 2-0 on day one while shooting a 4-over 76. 

ABOUT THE BEAVERS
•    Babson returns all 11 players from a team that captured the inaugural Colonial Women's Golf Conference (CWGC) Championship and finished 24th in the Scoreboard Division III rankings in 2025-26. 
•    Bansal led the team with a 76.75 scoring average and posted four top-15 finishes on the way to being named CWGC Player and Rookie of the Year, while sophomore Katie Yang joined her on the all-conference first team after posting a 78.93 stroke average to go along with five top-40 results. 
•    McCarthy (80.06) also recorded five top-40 showings and earned All-CWGC first-team accolades, while senior Laura Lu (80.43) and junior Camila Amaya (80.56) both garnered All-CWGC second-team recognition. 
•    The Beavers, who finished 10th at the Williams Invitational last September and 11th at the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational in March, concluded the season with a 315.00 team scoring average over 16 rounds. 

PAGE TURNS TO JONES
•    Following a successful three-year stint as an assistant coach at Denison, Alexander Jones was hired to succeed Jeff Page as the Beavers' new head men's and women's golf coach back in July. 
•    Part of the NCAC Coaching Staff of the Year in 2024 and 2025, Jones helped the Big Red's women's squad capture three conference titles in addition to advancing to the NCAA Division III Championship in three consecutive seasons, which includes finishing 16th in 2024 and 19th last May. 
•    A 2014 graduate of Methodist, Jones returned to his alma mater as the PGA Head Golf Professional and Director of Instruction for the PGA Golf Management Program in 2019 and served as a volunteer assistant for the Monarchs' men's golf program, which won a Division III national championship in 2022.

NOTABLE 
•    Bansal's 2-under 71 in the opening round of the Polar Bear Shootout at Brunswick Golf Club on October 4 of last year was the lowest in relation to par in school history, and her score of 1-under 145 marked the first time a Babson player finished under par in a 36-hole tournament in the three-year history of the program. 
•    The Beavers finished the 2025-26 campaign with a 307.42 adjusted scoring average, which was nearly two strokes better than in 2024-25. 
•    The 2026-27 campaign marks the final season for the first four players in program history, seniors Lu, Michelle Guan, Victoria Salim and Rachel Sim, who made their collegiate debut at the Polar Bear Shootout on September 9, 2023. 

UP NEXT
•    The Beavers play the first of four 36-hole tournaments this fall on September 12-13 when they travel to Brunswick, Maine, for the Polar Bear Shootout.
