Yang Earns Medalist Honors as No. 22 Women's Golf Claims Second Consecutive CWGC Championship Title

PITTSGROVE, N.J. — Sophomore Katie Yang (Orlando, Fla.) earned medalist honors at 1-under par, and No. 22 Babson College claimed four of the top five spots on the individual leaderboard on the way to capturing its second consecutive Colonial Women's Golf Conference (CWGC) Championship title on Tuesday afternoon at Running Deer Golf Club.

Led by first-year head coach Alexander Jones, the Beavers followed up Monday's 296 with a season-best score of 295 to post a 36-hole total of 15-over 591, which was 20 strokes clear of second-place Christopher Newport (611). Salisbury came in a distant third, while Kean, Penn State Altoona and Stockton placed fourth through sixth.

Yang, who matched the low round in program history with a 2-under 70 in Monday's first round, made four birdies and five bogeys on the way to carding a 1-over 73 for a four-stroke victory over Gabi McGehee of Christopher Newport. Her 36-hole total of 1-under 143 gave her the title. She was 2-over at the turn and birdied three of her first five holes on the back nine before closing the tournament with back-to-back pars to become just the second player in school history to finish under par over 36 holes.

Sophomore Vanya Bansal (Noida, India) and first-year Anita Wang (Phoenix, Ariz.) tied for third place with a 36-hole total of 5-over 149. Bansal made four birdies and four bogeys en route to posting the low round of the day with an even-par 72, while Wang was steady with two birdies and four bogeys to shoot a 74.

Sophomore Francesca Choquette (New York, N.Y.) made three birdies and matched her low score of the season with a second consecutive 76 to move up one spot into fifth place at 8-over 152. Junior Camila Amaya (Singer Island, Fla.) overcame a rough stretch early on the back nine by playing the final five holes in 1-under par to shoot an 81 that helped her tie for eighth place at 12-over 156.

The CWGC Championship concluded the fall portion of the schedule for Babson, which will return to competition in March.

TOURNAMENT NOTES
•    The Beavers' 36-hole total of 591 is lowest in program history and Tuesday's round of 295 is their best since shooting 288 in the second round of the Camp Lejeune Intercollegiate back on April 5, 2025.
•    With her of 1-under 143, Yang joins Bansal, who recorded a score of 1-under 145 at the 2025 Polar Bear Shootout, as the only players in school history to finish under par over 36 holes in school history.
•    Bansal, who earned medalist honors at last year's CWGC Championship, and Yang both own a pair of top-three finishes at the conference championship.
•    Choquette led the 30-player field in par-3 scoring at 2-under, Wang and Yang tied for first in par-4 scoring at 1-under and Bansal, Yang, Choquette and Amaya all finished under par on the par 5s for the tournament.
