JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga.—Junior
Laura Lu (Chengdu, China) closed with a 5-over 77 as the Babson College women's golf team finished in 11th place in their Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational debut on the Dunes Course on Sunday afternoon.
The Beavers shot 319 in the final round to post a score of 84-over 948 over 54 holes. No. 3 NYU carded the low round of the day (297) to finished four shots clear of No. 1 Emory (902) at 34-over 898. No. 4 Pomona-Pitzer (909) and No. 2 Carnegie Mellon tied for fourth, while No. 6 Amherst (924) rounded out the top five.
Lu made one birdie, four bogeys and a double-bogey on Sunday and moved up five spots on the leaderboard into a tie for 20th position at 15-over 231. First-years
Katie Yang (Orlando, Fla.), who carded an 8-over 80 in the final round, and
Vanya Bansal (Noida, India), who closed with a 79, both joined her in the top 50.
Yang made three birdies in her final round and was just 3-over through 12 holes on the way to finishing in a tie for 41st place at 21-over 237. Bansal made a pair of birdies over her final nine holes on Sunday to move into a share of 49th position at 23-over 239.
Sophomore
Hannah McCarthy (Toronto, Ontario) closed with an 83 and tied for 71st overall at 29-over 245, while classmate
Jennie Pan (Delray Beach, Fla.) shot a final round 86 and earned a share of 91st place at 35-over 251 for the weekend.
Sophomores
Camila Amaya (Singer Island, Fla.) and
Molly McCarthy (Toronto, Ontario) both shot 83 in the final round of the Indian Mound Invitational on the Indian Mound course at Jekyll Island GC. Amaya finished sixth with a 54-hole score of 24-over 240, while McCarthy tied for 14th place at 36-over 252.
Babson returns to action on Saturday, April 4, when it travels to Blackedge Country Club for the Hartford Invitational.
TOURNAMENT NOTES
• All 10 teams that finished ahead of the Beavers in the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational are currently among the top 16 in the Scoreboard Division III rankings.
• Lu tied for second in par 3 scoring at even-par and also tied for fourth with 35 pars over three rounds.
• Babson finished seventh in par 5 scoring at 22-over and eighth in total birdies with 28.
• The final round scoring average of the 120-player field (81.64) was the highest of the weekend and nearly a stroke higher than Saturday's second round.
