JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga.—Junior
Laura Lu (Chengdu, China) carded a 4-over 76 to move into the top 25 and the Babson College women's golf team is currently in ninth place following the second round of the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational on Saturday.
The Beavers posted a score of 316 in round two and sit at 53-over 629 through 36 holes on the Dunes Course. No. 6 Amherst (599) holds a one-stroke lead over No. 2 Carnegie Mellon (600) and is two shots better than No. 1 Emory (601) and No. 3 NYU (603), while No. 4 Pomona-Pitzer (605) is currently fifth.
Lu recovered from a tough start that included a double-bogey and a triple bogey over her first five holes to play the final 13 holes in 2-under. She made her first birdie of the day on the par 5 15th and carded back-to-back birdies to end the round on Nos. 7-8 to grab a share of 25th place at 10-over 154 through 36 holes.
First-year
Katie Yang (Orlando, Fla.) followed up Friday's 78 with a 7-over 79 that included one birdie and tied for 39th position at 13-over 157 through two rounds. Classmate
Vanya Bansal (Noida, India) made two birdies in a round of 81 and tied for 53rd overall at 16-over 160.
Sophomore
Hannah McCarthy (Toronto, Ontario) shot an 8-over 80 on Saturday and is tied for 63rd position with a 36-hole score of 18-over 162, while classmate
Jennie Pan (Delray Beach, Fla.) birdied her final hole of the day to salvage an 87 and is tied for
82nd place at 21-over.
Babson also has two players competing in the Indian Mound Invitational where sophomore
Camila Amaya (Singer Island, Fla.) backed up Friday's 79 by shooting an 8-over 78 in round two, which has her tied for fifth place at 13-over 155. Fellow sophomore
Molly McCarthy (Toronto, Ontario) shot an 88 on Saturday and is 25-over through two rounds.
Babson will begin final round play at 8 a.m. on Sunday.
TOURNAMENT NOTES
• The Beavers are tied for fifth in the 24-team field in par 5 scoring at 11-over and tied for sixth with 21 birdies over the first two rounds.
• The average score for the 120-player field was 80.76 on Saturday, which was more than a half-stroke better than Friday's first round.
• The 24-team field features 15 teams currently among the top 25 in the Scoreboard Division III rankings.
