Alpine Ski Teams Conclude Regular Season at Pat's Peak and Waterville Valley

WHAT TO KNOW

•    The Babson men's and women's alpine ski teams conclude their MacConnell Division regular season schedule on Saturday and Sunday in New Hampshire. 
•    The Beavers and their league rivals will compete in the slalom at Pat's Peak on Sunday before heading to Waterville Valley for the giant slalom on Sunday. 

WHAT'S AT STAKE
•    The Babson men have already secured their second consecutive MacConnell Division title and can win all 10 races for the second year in a row with first-places finishes at both Pat's Peak and Waterville Valley.
•    The Babson women enter the weekend in second place two points ahead of Clarkson and can secure their third consecutive runner-up finish by finishing ahead of the Golden Knights in at least one of two races. 

LAST TIME AT PAT'S PEAK
•    The Babson women recorded a first and a third-place finish in the slalom, while the came in first and second to wrap up the regular season on February 10-11, 2024. 
•    Junior Julia Wiacek, classmate Sonnie Travis and Carline Haaijer '24 swept the podium in the opening race of the weekend, while Travis (4th) and junior Ava Butler (10th) both recorded top-10 results on day two. 
•    Ryan Beardsley '24, Max Bellino, Lucas Wiacek '24 and senior Finn Horsley came in third through sixth to lead the Beaver men to a victory to begin the weekend, while senior Sebastian Sheppard placed third in the second race of the weekend. 

LAST TIME AT WATERVILLE VALLEY
•    The Beavers return to Waterville Valley for the first time since January 2011 when the men placed fourth in both the slalom and giant slalom while the women's squad came in sixth in the GS and eighth in the slalom. 

ABOUT THE BABSON MEN
•    The Beavers extended their MacConnell Division winning streak to 18 races by sweeping both giant slalom competitions at West Mountain last weekend. 
•    Sophomore Niko Leunig came in first on back-to-back days and senior Elliot Perretta and sophomore James Rosenbloom each recorded a pair of top-five finishes as the Green and White placed six competitors in the top 10 on Saturday and claimed seven of the 10 best times on Sunday. 
•    Leunig is currently first in the division standings with six victories in eight races, Perretta (2nd) has one win and five podium finishes, and Rosenbloom (5th) has posted five top-five results over the first four carnivals. 
•    First-year Asher Baron (6th) has finished worse than sixth just once in seven starts this winter, first-year Ben Hostetter (9th) and sophomore Connor Roy (10th) have combined for 11 top-10 results, and rookie Nick Heinrich is currently 14th overall entering the final weekend of competition. 

ABOUT THE BABSON WOMEN
•    The Beavers came in third in back-to-back giant slalom races at West Mountain last weekend. 
•    First-year Quinn Dennehy followed up a 10th-place showing in the opening race of the weekend by coming in fifth on Sunday, Travis placed eighth on day two and sophomore Camryn Knowlton posted two top-15 results for the Green and White. 
•    Dennehy has registered five top-five finishes and is currently fourth in the MacConnell Division standings, Wiacek owns a pair of podium finishes and ranks seventh overall, and Travis enters the final weekend of the regular season holding the final all-league position (15th). 
•    Knowlton (16th) and Butler (17th) have a chance to move into All-MacConnell Division position with strong performances, while junior Riley Jerome has posted six top-20 finishes and is currently 24th in the standings. 

WHAT TO WATCH FOR
•    Leunig and Perretta are the only competitors with a chance to finish first and one of them will join 2019 champion MacIntryre Henderson '20 as the only Babson men to earn MacConnell Skier of the Year honors. 
•    The Babson men, who matched their program high with five all-league selections last winter, enter the final weekend of competition with seven skiers currently holding onto All-MacConnell Division spots among the top 15. 
•    Wiacek, Travis and Butler all enter the weekend looking to earn a spot on the women's all-league team for the third year in a row. 
•    Dennehy, who begins the final two races 32 points behind Eva Young of Castleton, is looking to join Travis in 2024 as the only Babson women to claim MacConnell Division Rookie of the Year honors. 

UP NEXT
•    Both the Babson men's and women's teams have qualified for the USCSA Eastern Regional Championships, which will be held at Sugarloaf in Carrabassett Valley, Maine, on February 14-15.
