CARRABASSETT VALLEY, Maine—Juniors
Sonnie Travis (Park City, Utah) and
Julia Wiacek (Little Neck, N.Y.) both recorded top-five finishes to help the Babson College women's alpine ski team come in second in the giant slalom at the USCSA Eastern Regional Championships on Saturday at Sugarloaf Mountain.
The Beavers' top three competitors finished just 0.32 seconds behind first-place Castleton, while Northeastern was a distant third. UConn and UMass placed fourth and fifth respectively, giving the MacConnell Division four of the top five teams.
Sitting in ninth place following her first run, Travis posted the fastest second-run time in the field (54.30) to move into fourth place with a of 1:48.27. Wiacek put together two good runs and finished just 0.32 seconds behind her in fifth position.
First-year
Quinn Dennehy (Mendon, Vt.) came in eighth in her regional debut with a time of 1:49.34, while junior
Ava Butler (Goshen, Conn.) and sophomore
Camryn Knowlton (Montreal, Quebec) were separated by just 0.36 seconds after their opening run and tied for 14th position with a time of 1:52.90.
Babson returns to Sugarloaf on Sunday morning for the slalom.
