MARLBOROUGH, Mass.— For the fifth time this season, Babson College senior
Timmy O'Toole (Milton, Mass.) was named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Men's Basketball Defensive Athlete of the Week on Monday afternoon.
A 6'5" forward, O'Toole averaged 8.0 rebounds, 1.5 blocks and one steal as Babson closed the regular season with a pair of double-digit wins. The senior forward finished with 11 boards, two blocks and one steal in Wednesday's 61-49 victory over MIT and followed it up with five rebounds, one steal and one rejection in just 17 minutes as the Beavers rolled past Salve Regina 98-64 on Saturday.
A starter in all 25 games this season, O'Toole leads the NEWMAC with 8.7 rebounds per game and ranks third with 1.7 steals per game and fifth with 1.1 blocked shots per game. He is also third in scoring for the Beavers with 10.0 points per game while shooting 58.1 percent from the field, tops on the team.
Second-seeded Babson (19-6, 13-3 NEWMAC), which has won seven in a row, earned a first-round bye in this week's NEWMAC Tournament and will host a semifinal game against either third-seeded Salve Regina or sixth-seeded Clark on Thursday at 7 p.m. inside Staake Gymnasium.
