Women's Alpine Skiing Begins 2026 Campaign with Runner-Up Finish in the Slalom at Sunday River

NEWRY, Maine—First-year Quinn Dennehy (Mendon, Vt.) finished as the runner-up in her collegiate debut to help the Babson College women's alpine ski team come in second in the slalom in the opening race of the season at Sunday River Resort on Monday afternoon.

The Beavers' top three competitors finished just 2.41 seconds behind first-place Castleton. UConn came in third, Clarkson placed fourth and UMass rounded out the top five.

Dennehy, who posted a time of 1:33.96, recorded the fastest second run of any MacConnell Division skier (46.61) to make up nearly a second on Emilie Reinert Stene of Castleton, who took first with a time of 1:33.10. Junior Julia Wiacek (Little Neck, N.Y.) placed seventh with a time of 1:35.12, while classmate Sonnie Travis (Park City, Utah) was less than a half-second behind her in ninth place with a two-run time of 1:35.41.

Junior Ava Butler (Goshen, Conn.) finished 21st overall in a time of 1:45.64, and both junior Riley Jerome (Bethel, Maine) and sophomore Camryn Knowlton (Montreal, Quebec) were unable to complete their first run.

Babson will conclude its season opening carnival at Sunday River on Tuesday at 10 a.m. when it competes in the giant slalom.
