MARLBOROUGH, Mass.— The Babson College men's swimming and diving team received a pair of New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) weekly awards when the conference announced the honors on Monday.
First-year
Matthias McFarlane (Trumbull, Conn.) was named NEWMAC Men's Swimmer of the Week, and the group of sophomores
Tommy Hannenian (Sacramento, Calif.) and
Thomas Ambelang (Bernardsville, N.J.), McFarlane, and first-year
Evan Hong (Longmeadow, Mass.) were tabbed as the NEWMAC Men's Relay Team of the Week.
McFarlane recorded a pair of first-place finishes and season-best times in both events to help Babson defeat Wesleyan in a dual meet on January 3. He won the 50 breaststroke with a time of 26.58 and touched the wall first with a time of 2:13.50 in the 200 breaststroke later in the meet. In addition to his individual success, McFarlane was also part one first-place and one second-place finish in the relay events.
The quartet of Hannenian, Ambelang, McFarlane and Hong posted a time of 1:27.71 to take first place by just over a second in the 200 free relay during Saturday's dual-meet victory at Wesleyan. Their time was just under a second and a half off the team's season best set back in late November.
The Beavers (6-1) will compete in the final home meet of the season on Senior Day on January 24 against Bridgewater State, beginning at 11 a.m. inside Morse Pool.
