BABSON PARK, Mass.—The Babson College men's and women's swimming & diving teams returned to action on Friday night competing against Amherst College in a non-scoring relay meet.
The Beavers finished as the runner-up in nine of 17 swimming events and recorded one first- and four top-three results in diving.
The Babson women came in second in a pair of relays beginning with the trio of first-year
Becky Hwang (Needham, Mass.), senior
Jenny Chung (Cumming, Ga.) and first-year
Middy Hinckley (Trent Woods, N.C.) posting a time of 3:20.24 in the 3x100-yard backstroke. Sophomore
Marta Gershanok (Closter, N.J.), senior
Vangella Randell (Holden, Mass.) and first-year
Finn Bergquist (Marblehead, Mass.) followed it up by placing in the 3x100 breaststroke with a time of 3:54.03.
The Beavers came in second in six of eight men's swimming events, beginning with the quartet of sophomores
Nehemiah Rhee (Paramus, N.J.),
Nathan Huynh (Naperville, Ill.),
Thomas Ambelang (Bernardsville, N.J.) and
Tommy Hannenian (Sacramento, Calif.) touching the wall with a time of 1:37.71 in the 200 medley relay. Ambelang and Rhee teamed with junior
Anthony Taslakov (Sherborn, Mass.) to take second in the 3x100 backstroke with a time of 2:41.09, while Huynh joined sophomore
William Iglar (Marietta, Ga.) and first-year
Matthias McFarlane (Trumbull, Conn.) in finishing second with their time of 3:00.88 in the 3x100 breaststroke.
Taslakov, Hannenian, Rhee and Ambelang captured second place with a time of 4:14.85 in the 500 free relay, which was followed by Iglar, McFarlane and sophomore
Dom Crisafulli (Natick, Mass.) coming in as the runner-up in the 3x100 medley in a time of 2:44.63. Taslakov, Hannenian, sophomore
Phillip Spiridonov (Ridgewood, N.J.) and Huynh then finished second with a time of 3:17.04 in the 400 free relay.
Babson's lone first-place finish of the meet came on the 1-meter diving board where junior
David Krol (Grafton, Mass.) posted a six-dive score of 278.80. Krol also finished second on the 3-meter board while first-year
Hadi AlDayaa (Chelmsford, Mass.) came in third in both diving events.
The Beavers get right back in the pool on Saturday at 11 a.m. when they return to dual meet competition against Wesleyan in Middletown, Conn.
